13:15 – Black Forza

This is a tricky puzzle to solve with just one horse having the benefit of experience, but BLACK FORZA was an expensive purchase at the breeze-ups earlier this year for an operation that often has its newcomers well forward, so a chance is taken on him. Bernard Shaw, a $1.8 million yearling with an exceptional pedigree, is an obvious player, while his stablemate Rock of Cash should come into the reckoning.

13:45 – Gordon Bennett

GORDON BENNETT progressed through the handicap in 2022, winning three times, two of those coming at this track, and he shaped much better than the bare result over course and distance last month. He essentially finished on the bridle that day having got caught behind a wall of horses, signalling he is back in top form, and he is well worth chancing to take advantage of a falling mark now. There’s plenty of depth to this race, though, with Charlisse and Collective Power just a couple of potential threats.

14:20 – California Dreamer

CALIFORNIA DREAMER remains a maiden, but she has shown useful form and, though she probably exceeded expectations when fifth in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot last week, it can be argued she was a shade better than the result to boot. In the hope this doesn’t come too soon, she looks the way to go, for all there are plenty of promising rivals in opposition, notably American Bar and January.

14:55 – Jan Brueghel

JAN BRUEGHEL is bred in the purple and looked potentially smart when forging clear to make a winning debut in a 10-runner maiden over this course and distance five weeks ago. The time figure he recorded was also impressive, so with the improvement forthcoming, he looks like a big player now moving into a pattern company for top connections. Bolster has taken his form up a notch for his new stable this term and is feared in his hat-trick bid, while Trustyourinstinct is another to consider.

15:30 – Bluestocking

BLUESTOCKING hit the bar on multiple occasions last season, notably in the Irish Oaks at this course, and she was most impressive when dropped back to a mile and a quarter on her reappearance at York last month. On the back of that performance, she looks a more solid option than standard-setter Emily Upjohn, who could be a cut above if back to her best but her two runs this season have been a long way removed from that. Stay Alert comfortably saw off last week’s Royal Ascot winner Running Lion on her reappearance and looks best of the rest.

16:05 – Bialystok

This looks incredibly open, but BIALYSTOK has made up into a very useful hurdler for Willie Mullins, and she is potentially very well treated now making her handicap debut on the Flat (was useful when trained in France), so she looks the way to go under a good rider. Good Heavens is weighted to go well and could emerge as the main danger on his return with his yard going well, while Scholarship and Set Point also need factoring into this competitive handicap.

16:40 – Galen

This looks like a good opportunity for GALEN, who chased home none other than City of Troy home on his sole two-year-old start in a maiden at this course on his sole start last season, and he looked in need of the run when again finding just one too good at this course last month. He sets a solid standard and should be able to open his account. Lucky Melody shaped well on her introduction at Leopardstown and she is second choice ahead of Next Trick and Lucky Out.

17:15 – John Steinbeck

If he turns out to be half as good as he’s bred to be, JOHN STEINBECK will have little trouble in making a winning debut in this maiden. It will be an ominous sign for this rivals if he’s strong in the betting. Arnaman performed well above market expectations when runner-up at Dundalk in March and, with improvement likely starting out for new connections, he gets the nod ahead of Emerald Eclipse for forecast purposes.
