Spring Chorus and Lincoln Rockstar (second choice) notched their recent C&D wins on soft ground and today’s conditions don’t look optimal for a few, but SKI JUMP, who won on this card last year (good to firm), has plenty in his favour having shaped well for his new yard here late last month. The drop in trip is the concern with Grifter, while Violeta conversely has stamina to prove.

15:30 Newton Abbot – Belgarum (Daily Mail)

The Joe Tizzard-trained BELGARUM looks a better horse for having had wind surgery and he fairly bolted up at Fontwell. Given his hurdle rating, he might still be well handicapped despite the 11lb rise. American Gerry rates a solid alternative in his current vein of form, while Imperial Pride is interesting now back under rules.

16:30 Newton Abbot – Sea The Clouds (Daily Express)

Mr Tambourine Man is not passed over lightly in his hat-trick bid and he is feared most in a tight contest, but marginal preference is for SEA THE CLOUDS after this month’s solid Fontwell return behind an improving stablemate, with his claimer’s 10lb allowance also making plenty of appeal. The unexposed Townhill also needs considering on this step up in class.

16:47 Beverley – Jez Bomb (Racing Post)

Only a handful of these look up to winning. Back up in distance, JEZ BOMB looks the pick. The main danger is Lady Of Time who showed her best form when second at Nottingham last week. Others to consider are Makuri and the consistent Little Venice.
