14:00 – Selection
SELECTION was a cheap purchase at the breeze-ups – cost just 8,000 guineas – but showed promise at big odds when runner-up to an above-average newcomer over this trip at Hamilton earlier this month. The winner was withdrawn from the Albany at Royal Ascot this week, so is clearly well regarded, and Selection should have no problem going one place better now in a race of this nature. Komorkis wasn’t far behind the selection on that occasion and can pose the biggest threat.
14:30 – Ballsbridge
Despite going about things in very contrasting manners, BALLSBRIDGE and Bay Dream Believer both shaped with promise in the same race over this course and distance a fortnight ago. The former looked to have them in trouble before being worn down by one late in the day and he looks the way to go on the back of that effort. Of the others, Duchess is a threat having had an excuse at Chepstow last time.
15:00 – River Of Stars
RIVER OF STARS has developed into a smart mare, making a winning return in the Bronte Cup at York last season, and she went on to run well in Group 2s later that year. She wasn’t in the same form when finishing third in the latest renewal of the Bronte Cup, but she is entitled to build on that now, and she has her sights lowered here. River of Stars stands out on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings and can prove too strong for Vera Verto and Never Ending, who can fight it out for minor honours.
15:30 – Trooper Bisdee
A four-time winner as a three-year-old, TROOPER BISDEE resumed his progress on his return from nine months off when successful at Nottingham four weeks ago (Valley of Flowers placed second) and a 5 lb rise in the weights shouldn’t prove beyond him on that evidence. Yorkindness, who is three from three at this track, is steadily easing in the weights and is feared, ahead of aforementioned Valley of Flowers.
16:00 – Dancing In Paris
This is a competitive event despite the small field with the narrow vote in favour of DANCING IN PARIS. Ian Williams’ charge has thrived in recent starts, adding to his tally in good style at York before being reeled in late on by a subsequent winner at Goodwood 16 days ago. He’s a player from the same mark and is preferred to Knightswood, who was very unlucky at Haydock and is respected, with Forceful Speed and Al Anoud others to consider, also.
16:30 – Lennon
This looks a very interesting race for the grade, and one in which the two three-year-olds look likely to dominate. LENNON showed just modest form in three starts as a juvenile, but he proved a different proposition on his return and handicap debut at Bath last week, knuckling down well to peg back a more battle-hardened rival. He is just 4 lb higher now and with further progress on the cards, he can see off New King’s Road, who has to command plenty of respect turned out under a penalty.
17:00 – Travis
TRAVIS showed much improved form fitted with first-time cheekpieces when opening his account over this course and distance 13 days ago, responding well to pressure under a more positive ride and having a bit in hand at the line. A subsequent 4 lb rise looks more than fair and the booking of William Buick is another plus. Yanifer is down in grade and well drawn, so he’s a danger along with Hectic.
