14:30 – Motawahij

The 7f Chesham Stakes for two-year-olds and the most striking aspect in the first three races in this division is how poorly the Irish have run. One finished in the first six at time of recording (Thursday am). They seem at sea on this much quicker ground. That may be left behind now but it’s a concern for me. Motawahij appeals to me for the Karl Burke stable for new Saudi owners. This colt cost a lot of money when bought for 285k guineas at the Breeze Up sales. He should improve for his debut second at Hamilton and the extra furlong in trip.

15:05 – Continuous

Roaring Lion is on the roster as a winning stallion this week and Middle Earth represents him in this 1m 4f Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes. However, Aidan O’Brien’s Continuous is the highest rated in the field and looks hard to beat – even if it is his seasonal debut. Last season’s St Leger winner should improve this season too.

15:45 – Washington Heights

The 6f Queen Elizabeth II Stakes is wide open but there’s a lot of speed drawn in the middle of the track. Washington Heights looks progressive and won on re-appearance in the Group 3 Abernant at Newmarket before fading to finish fourth at York. A similar effort here will see him go close.

16:25 – Task Force (each-way)

River Tiber should come on for his run and the step up to 7f in the Jersey Stakes will suit but Task Force (each-way) beat him a head last season in the Middle Park Stakes. He has a wind op in the Autumn and opened this season with a seventh-placed finish in the 2,000 Guineas. Whatever  Inisherin does on Friday might be another pointer to Task Force’s chance here. He looks an each-way play at the prices.

17:05 – Orazio

A wide open betting heat as you’d expect for the 6f Wokingham handicap. I’m taking last year’s favourite for this contest a little bit on trust and that’s Orazio. He disappointed on his second start this term at HQ but stumbled and finished lame. He’s dropped to a mark of 100 (was 102 last year in this) and Charlie Hills’ runners have bounced back from poor runs before.

17:40 – Hand Of God (NAP)

I’ll be looking for a high draw in this 1m 2f handicap and Hand Of God looks a stand-out to me. He won really well on quick ground at Newmarket and a few winners have come out of it since. He won well at Sandown on season debut after getting in quite lightly given his Newmarket performance and has still only been nudged up 3lb since then to a mark of 91. He’s my nap of the day.

18:15 – Run For Oscar

Run For Oscar looks as good as anything in this 2m 5f contest particularly if the rain stays away. The step up in trip will be a big help to the nine-year-old and he should be ridden more forwardly by French jockey Maxime Guyon, than when third last year.
