14:30 – Heavens Gate
I was taken by HEAVENS GATE at the Curragh. She’s a strong stayer, and with just the 17 runners they should stay in the one group. Ryan Moore may opt to ride stablemate Fairy Godmother but that will only help the price for Heavens Gate.
15:05 – Inisherin
Givemethebeatboys has his chance and was fourth last season in the Coventry Stakes behind River Tiber. A couple of the English runners may be ahead of him, namely INISHERIN and Elite Status. The former looks the right favourite to me so I’ll side with him.
15:45 – Opera Singer (NAP)
OPERA SINGER (NAP) was big in the paddock on her debut in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and Aidan O’Brien made no secret of the fact that she would come on for the run. Ramatuelle could be the one to chase her home under Oisin Murphy.
16:25 – Ethical Diamond
Willie Mullins saddles ETHICAL DIAMOND and Ryan Moore was keen to ride him over this 1m 4f trip. He’s a decent draw in stall 18 and his comeback run at Leopardstown over 10 f when second to Saturn (won again since) should put him spot on now. He should be sharper for that run.
17:05 – Zaynab
There’s up to 30 runners going to post and ZAYNAB looks to be going the right way. The worry is she mightn’t have enough experience for a test like this over the straight mile at Ascot. She’s beaten more experienced rivals narrowly both times and there could be more to come.
17:40 – Calandagan
I’m not a massive fan of the opposition against CALANDAGAN so the French horse gets my vote more by default than anything else. Comes in here looking for a hat-trick after two victories at Longchamp on softer ground in April & May.
18:15 – Got To Love A Grey/Sommelier
There are 28 runners declared over 5f for the finale on Friday and the likelihood is they’ll split into two groups. I’m going for the ones that are drawn high and GOT TO LOVE A GREY (25) and SOMMELIER (27) make some appeal but it’s honestly a ‘stick a pin in it type of race’. I’m unlikely to back anything as I’ve no strong opinion of who wins it.
