14:30 – Mountain Breeze
Fairy Godmother is a warm order for the Aidan O’Brien / Ryan Moore combo and looked really good when winning at Naas last time. However, I was at Newmarket when Godolphin’s MOUNTAIN BREEZE won and I was very impressed by her. She’s a half-sister to Pinatubo and might just be good enough to upset the Ballydoyle raider as she chases the hat-trick.
15:05 – Kind Of Blue (each-way)
The Commonwealth Cup over 6f and I’m going to think outside the box with KIND OF BLUE. I was really impressed by what I saw at Doncaster when he hit the line hard to win the second race of his three-year-old career.
He’s among the lightest raced in the field so is open to any amount of improvement and trainer James Fanshawe wouldn’t run him if he thought he wasn’t up to it. A sporting each-way play.
15:45 Ramatuelle
The French filly RAMATUELLE was very unlucky in the 1,000 Guineas and many still can’t believe she didn’t win it. She can make amends now. She drops down to 7f but that shouldn’t be an issue at this stiff track and the drying ground will help.
16:25 Ethical Diamond
A 1m 4f handicap where Willie Mullins teams up with Ryan Moore with the improving four-year-old, ETHICAL DIAMOND. He was a close-up second at Leopardstown and that will have left him primed for a big run against more exposed opposition.
17:05 Fair Angellica (each-way)
I may be letting my heart rule my head here but I really like FAIR ANGELLICA (each-way) who is highly rated by her trainer Richard Hughes. He’s had this race in mind for her after a win at Kempton last time over 7f. The better ground and a step up to a mile should help.
17:40 Calandagan
Space Legend was a very unlucky loser at Goodwood, but got boxed in and should have won given how he finished. James Doyle takes over in the saddle. Ballydoyle’s Diego Valazquez ran a good race in the French Guineas and was eighth in the French Derby over 10f. If he gets this 1m 4f trip he could be a player now dropped to Group 2 company.
However, French challenger CALANDAGAN has won twice on soft ground at Longchamp, but his sire was Gleneagles so he should cope with these faster conditions.
18:15 Jubilee Walk
Oisin Murphy has a good book of rides and JUBILEE WALK can end the day on a high for him. She’s two form two this season and won at York last time with a bit to spare. The other to note is the Gosdens’ Dorney Lake.
