14:30 Whistlejacket

Four of the last five winners of the Queen Mary Stakes were beaten coming into this contest but I’ll stick with Whistlejacket who seems to be the stand out two-year-old at this year’s festival. One who could be worth considering is Arizone Blaze who was beaten by the Aidan O’Brien runner on his second start in a Stakes race but won afterwards.

15:05 Assailant (each-way)

A wide-open betting heat over 1m 4f and I’ll be looking for high-drawn runners over this trip. One that strikes me as a likely candidate is Assailant to be ridden by Saffie Osborne for the Gosdens. He’s got some good form coming into this and should be on the front end. There’s so many in the field that have yet to race at 1m 4f, but Assailant is a decent price and my each-way bet of the day.

15:45 You Got To Me (each-way)

The Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes can go the way of Diamond Rain where Godolphin often target this contest with their better fillies. A draw in stall two is a negative but she may be too classy for these. However, You Got To Me won the Lingfield Oaks Trial well and was a decent fourth in the Oaks on much softer ground. She can run a big race here at an each-way price.

16:25 Trawlerman

The Ascot Gold Cup is the feature race of the day and I’ve give Trawlerman a chance on this faster ground. Kyprios would possibly prefer a bit of dig in the ground and there’s very little wriggle room in his price. He has beaten him before at this venue last October on Champions Day on soft ground over 2m so I’m willing to take at chance on him at the prices.

17:05 Skukuza

There’s only been one winner form a single figure draw in this over the last decade and the step up to a mile has brought marked improvement from Ed Dunlop’s Skukuza who won at Newmarket last time out and can follow up.

17:40 Kings Gambit

King’s Gambit had plenty in hand when winning the London Gold Cup at Newbury on seasonal debut and gets a decent draw here in stall seven. That’s usually one of the most informative races of the season so I’ll follow the form until it tells me otherwise.

18:15 The X O (each-way)

A 7f handicap brings the curtain down on day two where a middle to high draw usually have the advantage. I liked English Oak but his one disappointing run has come on good to firm ground and that’s a concern. I’ll throw one in at a big price and The X O (each-way) can run well at a big price and give us place options at least, although he’ll be looking for the line over this 7f trip rather than his more favourable 6f trip.
