14:30 – Audience

One of the best weeks of the year for Flat racing fans and a superb day in the store. There’s three Group One contests that fly at you on Tuesday like body blows so let’s hope we can give Paddy something to think about with our picks. Audience was a surprise winner of the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury and can go in again on this quicker ground.

15:05 – Andesite

The Coventry Stakes over 6f and Karl Burke’s Andesite is a half-brother to former Queen Mary winner, Dramatised. He knuckled down well to win on debut at York and the trainer is in red-hot form. Yah Mo Be There chased him home that day and can go well again.

15:45 – Asfoora

This Group 1 sprint over 5f will be fast and furious and the Australian speedster Asfoora will be used to the hustle and bustle of this type of contest. Crucially, he’ll also be used to fast ground and that may count for a lot. Big Evs is a worthy favourite but the Aussie raider could be the surprise package.

16:25 – Rosallion

The Grade One St James’s Palace Stakes looks an intriguing contest with the English, Irish and French 2,000 Guineas winners all taking each other on. I fancy Richard Hannon’s Irish Classic victor Rosallion to reverse the form with his Newmarket conqueror Notable Speech. He did well to win at the Curragh when he looked to have plenty to do inside the final furlong.

17:05 – Nusret (each-way)

There’s seven Irish-trained runner in the field with Willie Mullins’ My Lyka among the market leaders. I fancy an Irish challenger but it’s one at a price. Joseph O’ Brien’s Nusret. He was a two-miler over jumps and with this being 2m 3f, it could pay to have a runner with a little bit of pace, which Nusret has. He looks a solid each-way player.

17:40 – Torito

The Gosden’s Torito should handle fast conditions and ran well behind Waipiro here last season. He made a pleasing debut at Newmarket and loves fast ground. He can get the Gosdens off the mark.

18:15 – My Mate Mozzie (each-way)

The day One finale is the 1m 6f Copper Horse Handicap and unsurprisingly, Willie Mullins has a strong contender in Belloccio. However, Ryan Moore – who rides a lot of the Mullins’ challengers at this meeting – rides Fox Journey for Sir Micheal Stoute. Both carry the same weight. Gavin Cromwell’s My Mate Mozzie (each-way) can be a player. He’s maybe better known as a National Hunt horse but looks to have solid each-way claims.
