13:35 Asktheboss
ASKTHEBOSS is a brother to two-year-old Canadian Grade 1 winner La Pelosa and he showed plenty to work on when hitting the frame on debut in a six-furlong minor event at York, showing bright speed and leaving the impression he’d strip fitter for the outing. That was a strong race and, with improvement forthcoming, he’s expected to open his account in what looks a weaker race on paper. Death Or Glory showed promise when coming through for second at Hamilton and is feared from stall 1, with Thecoffeepoddotco another to consider back down in trip.
14:10 Copper Knight
COPPER KNIGHT is now a 10-year-old but he has shown he still retains plenty of ability so far this season, running his best race when beaten a neck over this course and distance last month. He was flying too high in a very competitive handicap at York last time, but did very well to finish third, and this three-time course and distance winner will be a force to be reckoned with now having his sights lowered somewhat. Dickieburd and Never Dark are a couple of interesting rivals.
14:45 Hosanna Power
HOSANNA POWER is just the sort of low-mileage four-year-old his leading yard excels with, and having beaten a subsequent winner on last month’s return at Newbury on what was his handicap debut, he looks well weighted from just 4 lb higher, especially as he should have even more to offer. City Streak and Box To Box finished first and second over course and distance recently and are feared most, the latter perhaps the bigger threat this time.
15:20 Teraabb
An ultra-competitive feature in which the suggestion is TERAABB, who shaped better than the bare result when mid-field at Ascot just over five weeks ago and Charlie Fellowes’ gelding is worth another chance having landed the plum stall. Monfrid continues to show signs of inexperience, but William Haggas’ colt is improving so gets the nod for second, with Sailthisshipalone and Burdett another couple fancied to go well, too.
15:55 Rich Belief
Claims can be made for plenty of these, but RICH BELIEF was arguably unlucky not to win having been shuffled back at a crucial stage when third in a course and distance handicap three weeks ago and he earns the vote to confirm the promise shown then and come out on top. Plus Point and Wind Your Neck In both have untapped potential granted this sort of test and head the dangers, with Sharp Distinction also making each-way appeal.
16:30 Mythical Phoenix
MYTHICAL PHOENIX won a five-furlong maiden when trained by John McConnell in Ireland and has made a positive start in handicaps for these connections, finishing runner-up in a couple of events over six furlongs. He left the impression he won’t be long in going one place better at Doncaster last time, just always playing catch up with the speedy winner that day, and he should be able to bag a good position from stall 3 here. Thankuappreciate is another who has fared well with the draw and is second choice ahead of Supreme King.
17:04 Dreams Adozen
Course-winner DREAMS ADOZEN ran her best race of the season when a length third over a mile and three quarters at Nottingham 10 days ago, given a positive ride and stuck to her task well when headed just over a furlong from home. This race hasn’t as much depth and the drop back in trip won’t be a problem, so she will remain of interest from the same mark. Recent Windsor scorer Richard P Smith heads the list of dangers ahead of in-form pair Time Tells All and Order of Malta.
17:35 Oman
OMAN is less than straightforward, but he’s made a fine start for his current yard, winning and finishing runner-up in a couple of course and distance handicaps, and remains very well treated on old form, so he receives the vote. Tango Man ran well in a strong-looking handicap at Wetherby 12 days ago and looks sure to play a leading role over this still longer trip providing this doesn’t come too soon, with the ultra-consistent Gordon Grey completing the shortlist.
