13:50 York – Piecederesistance

A Ladies’ amateur race over 1m 4f starts proceedings where Star Jasmine looks very unexposed at the trip. However, judging by her pedigree, she’s not guaranteed to stay. She can do a lot of damage off a mark of 83, but is not for me over this 1m 4f stamina test. Micky Hammond’s PIECEDERESISTANCE was sixth in this last year off of a double-figure draw and stall six should suit better. He runs off 75 now and has been rated in the mid-80s before. He settled well in the hood last time when second on debut and looks handicapped to win.

14:05 Sandown – Imperial Fighter (each-way)

Quick ground over a mile may prove too sharp for Dual Identity and instead, I’ll take an each-way punt on IMPERIAL FIGHTER. He finished placed in an Irish Guineas for Andrew Balding and has been highly tried since then but needs to revert to that form again as he’s dropped to a handicap rating of 95. He ran ok at Newmarket last time but can come on from that run now and wears a tongue-tie for the first time and that may or may not work. He has a mark now where he can be competitive again if he retains his old ability. Let’s hope it’s today.

14:25 York – Londoner (each-way nap)

I’m going for an outsider here in LONDONER who looks dangerous to dismiss. A former Ballydoyle inmate – now trained by Jim Goldie – he’s been running over different trips but a return to 7f should suit, now dropped in class. He looks too big a price in an extra-place race. I’m going to put him up as my best bet of the day as an each-way nap.

14:40 Sandown – Flora Of Bermuda

The dead eight are declared for the Listed Scurry Stakes so we’ll need all of them to line up for an each-way angle. The 5f contest looks tricky enough and I’ve come down on the side on FLORA OF BERMUDA. I’m ignoring her first run at Haydock where she was slowly out of the gates but her form last season gives her a big shout – provided she doesn’t fall asleep at the start.

15:00 York – Klondike

Just the six runners in the Listed Ebor Cup Stakes over 1m 6f and where Chesspiece and KLONDIKE are looking to bounce back to form. None of the rest look entirely convincing so I’ll side with Klondike who is dropped in class and posted a career-best effort last time at this venue. He’ll need to improve again but is open to it for William Haggas and Ryan Moore.

15:20 Chester – Brunel Nation

He was beaten less than two lengths at Goodwood and BRUNEL NATION still looks progressive. He races off the same mark as his last start and ran better than the result suggested. Now back on a left-handed track, he can regain the winning thread for trainer Richard Hughes.

15:35 York – Vince L’Aamour (each-way)

The forecasted rain will help VINCE L’AMOUR after he ran sixth at Espom last time and steps up to 6f again. His draw in 15 should be fine and he was in decent form bar a blow-out at this venue two runs back but that may have come too soon after a fine second at Chester. He’s a nice each-way price to take the risk.
