13:45 – Expert Witness

EXPERT WITNESS did well under the circumstances when runner-up on her return at Bath in April, making good headway from the rear in a steadily-run race, and she again found only one too strong under a change of tactics at Yarmouth last month. Expert Witness was beaten by a stable switcher who won again on his next start, and he pulled three and a quarter lengths clear of the third, so a 2 lb rise in the weights looks fair.

14:20 – Anno Domini

There are some interesting newcomers here, including ANNO DOMINI who fetched 525,000 guineas at the breeze-ups. He’s by New Bay and is a half-brother to several useful winners so makes appeal on paper on debut for Charlie Appleby with William Buick in the saddle. Wild Clary was a big eye-catcher when finishing in mid-division on his debut here last month, and he looks likely to make significant improvement with that experience under his belt. So he could pose the main danger to the selection.

14:50 – Born A Rebel

BORN A REBEL showed improved form to make a successful handicap debut on her reappearance at Yarmouth in April and she arguably produced an even better effort when runner-up at Leicester 17 days ago. Born A Rebel kept on nicely to be beaten only half a length after conceding first run, and she still looks nicely treated following a 2 lb rise in the weights, particularly as there’s the prospect of more to come.

15:25 – Global Asset

GLOBAL ASSET was unable to reward support on his reappearance at Windsor last month but he produced a promising effort to finish runner-up to another unexposed sort, taking a big step forward on what he had shown as a juvenile. Global Asset, who had been gelded prior to his return, was only beaten a neck and was a length and a half clear of a subsequent winner (the reopposing Great Acclaim) in third. He retains the potential to do better again.

16:00 – Clove Hitch

CLOVE HITCH finished third behind subsequent Dante Stakes winner Economics in a hot maiden over this course and distance on her return in April and she built on that promise when runner-up at Windsor. Clove Hitch, who was beaten half a length, pulled 11 lengths clear of the third and the form she showed there sets the standard. She’s a promising filly and can get off the mark here.

16:30 – Metaverse

METAVERSE won a seven-furlong novice at Kempton in January and proved well suited by the return to that distance when runner-up at the same venue in handicap company last month. Metaverse stayed on well to get within a neck of the winner, who looks an improved performer this year, in a race that promises to be a solid piece of form for the grade. He still looks well treated after edging up only 1 lb so is a big player on his turf debut.

17:05 – Sixties Chic

SIXTIES CHIC did well to overcome trouble in running on her return from an 11-week break at Windsor last month and she could be up to defying a 6 lb rise in the weights. Sixties Chic, who was strong in the betting, was going well when short of room two furlongs out but she quickened up nicely when in the clear and hit the front 100 yards out to score by a cosy three-quarters of a length. She was value for more than that winning margin.

17:40 – Aulis

AULIS was third behind a subsequent winner on his handicap debut at Kempton last month, and the form of his latest third at Salisbury has also been franked. The winner at Salisbury has since finished runner-up in a better race, while the second at Salisbury went one better at Bath last time. Aulis never threatened to land a telling blow there but time has shown he faced a stiff enough task and this well-bred sort could yet do better. The excellent form of the Ralph Beckett stable is also in his favour.
