The betting should reveal plenty in this two-year-old novice but Tom Clover’s RAJETERIAT possesses the best form on offer and still looked green when third to the fairly useful Moving Force in a similar event at Beverley last time so gets the vote. Tom Ward’s Mohaather filly Skellig Isle makes her debut here and is related to some speedy types so could emerge as the main danger ahead of Siegen, Hucklesbrook and another of the newcomers Backspin.
14:05 – Fantasy Master
The largest field on the card lines up for this five-furlong handicap. Darryll Holland’s FANTASY MASTER shaped well when third at Nottingham last week, faring best of those to race prominently, and is handicapped to win, so he could be the answer from stall 2. Good cases can be made for many others in a hot race though, chief among them last year’s winner Lil Guff, Jenever, and the unreliable pair Atalanta’s Boy and Acklam Express who are potentially thrown in on their old form.
14:40 – Royal Officer
Some top stables are represented in this two-year-old maiden. Galileo colt ROYAL OFFICER fetched a million guineas at the Craven Breeze-Up sales, the most expensive horse at the auction, and is hard to get away from first time up for Charlie Appleby. The betting will obviously be informative, with Consolidation, another who fetched a tidy sum at Newmarket, interesting on debut. Attack has strong claims having shaped promisingly when runner-up on his debut at Yarmouth and looks sure to improve.
15:15 – Gallant Lion
Course-and-distance scorer GALLANT LION can race off the same mark as when an encouraging sixth at Newbury last time behind Hosanna Power after being left with too much to do so is fancied to register his first success since joining Alan King this season. Crystal Mariner looks to have better days ahead of him, having shaped encouragingly when third on his reappearance at Chester last month, and heads the list of dangers, with Born Ruler also firmly in the picture. Wisper completes the shortlist.
15:50 – Devoirs Choice
This looks a wide-open three-year-old handicap. Ed Walker’s DEVOIRS CHOICE rates the pick of the weights on the back of his excellent second to Old Cock at Haydock a week ago, when they pulled clear of the rest, so he edges the verdict running off the same mark here. Handicap debutants Games People Play and Travolta both appeal as likely improvers though, and merit serious consideration. Ravenswell is another who can have a say in an intriguing contest.
16:25 – Divine Breath
Ralph Beckett gets DIVINE BREATH out under a penalty before a 15 lb rise for last week’s easy Chelmsford success kicks in, where she made all to win by six lengths, and she’ll be tough to beat if in a similar mood. Kempton maiden winner Sunfall can have a line put through her first run in a handicap at Newmarket last time and remains open to improvement so she looks second best ahead of Zipster who might be suited by today’s shorter trip and has William Buick on board again.
17:00 – Arch Legend
ARCH LEGEND has been freshened up by Charlie Johnston with a month’s break since failing in his bid to run up a quick hat-trick on his last start at Chester and is taken to resume his progression as he’d been going very much the right way before that. Allonsy finished behind College Choir when those fillies were placed at Leicester last time but she can turn that form around this time and give the selection most to think about.
