14:00 – Shaw Park
SHAW PARK confirmed his return to form under a more attacking ride than usual when runner-up over a mile at this course four days ago and, with the drop back in trip worth exploring on that evidence, he looks poised to shed his maiden tag in a race where he is highly likely to get an easy lead. Heer’s Sadie goes particularly well here and she’s feared most.
14:30 – Duran
This doesn’t look a strong race, and it can provide a perfect opportunity for DURAN to open his account. He has shown improved form since returning after a gelding operation, finishing placed on each start, and easily running his best race to date over five furlongs at Nottingham last time. It is worth noting he’s bred to be smart, and will be very hard to beat if reproducing his latest effort. Union Island, on his return from eight months off and a gelding operation, looks the obvious threat.
15:00 – Kondratiev Wave
KONDRATIEV WAVE was rated as high as 94 at his peak, but is just a modest performer now, and showed the benefit of an eight-week break when resuming winning ways in a similar event over seven furlongs at this course on Monday. The step back up in trip will be no problem and he will remain the one to beat kept to this level. Villalobos is another weighted to go well and rates the biggest threat.
15:30 – Chourmo
Again, not the most appealing race, but CHOURMO does at least arrive in form, having won a course and distance handicap two starts back, and running just as well in defeat back here last month. He didn’t settle fully on that occasion, but was only headed well inside the final furlong, and a similar performance will see him bang in the mix now dropping into classified company. Three Dons, who belatedly opened his account at Leicester last time, can pose the biggest threat.
16:00 – Mrembo
MREMBO was a three-time winner last season, including over a similar trip at this course, and she broke much better than on her reappearance when finishing runner-up over this course and distance last month. She was beaten only by one who had fallen to a good mark and returned to form that day, so she will remain of interest under her regular rider from a 1 lb lower mark. Gallimimus didn’t enjoy the rub of the green when eighth that day and is rated next best ahead of in-form pair Night Bear and Pride of Nepal.
16:30 – Voodoo Ray
Multiple course winner VOODOO RAY has thrived upon returning this term, landing back-to-back handicaps at this course before bringing up the hat-trick at Bath 23 days ago. He could be up to defying the handicapper again in this sort of form, with fellow in-form pair A Pint of Bear and Conquest of Power also respected. Market confidence behind Beautiful Sky on debut for the Kubler team would also need to be viewed positively.
17:05 – Katie G
KATIE G improved when opening her account on the all-weather at Lingfield recently and, in the hope that she will prove equally effective returned to turf here, she looks the one to be on. Yiengaa went down narrowly at Catterick last week and she looks nailed-on for another bold show, while Monkey Miss is also shortlisted.
