13:40 – Unthinkable

This doesn’t look a strong race and it should prove a good opportunity for the George Boughey-trained UNTHINKABLE to open her account. He best effort came on her middle start when runner-up in heavy ground at Leicester last month but was unable to build on that back on the all-weather last time. This looks an easier opportunity, though, and she should be well-suited by a return to turf. Stat Goddess and Iwo Jima may give her most to think about.

14:10 – Powdering

POWDERING arrives in top form having won three of his last four starts, and she produced yet another career-best effort at Newmarket last time, shaken up over two furlongs out before being produced to lead in the final furlong. She is clearly an improving filly, one who looks incredibly well bought at 3,500 guineas, and she is expected to launch another bold bid. Evocative Spark ran well at Chester last time and is second choice, while Challet has gone a while without a win but is a potential class act in a 0-75.

14:40 – Puella Law

PUELLA LAW showed a fair level of form in four starts in maiden and minor company last season, and she also caught the eye on her return and handicap debut over this course and distance earlier this month. She was strong in the betting but was asked to come from much further back than those who finished in and around her, doing all of her best work at the finish, and she is a horse to be positive about on the back of that effort back in maiden company. Get Jiggy With It, a fellow three-year-old, can pose the biggest threat.

15:10 – She’s Got Bottle

SHE’S GOT BOTTLE showed improved form to resume winning ways at Pontefract earlier in the month, given a more positive ride than usual and really responding well to pressure. She progressed further to follow up over this course and distance five days later, strong in the betting under a penalty and again having plenty in hand. She’s Got Bottle is a further 5 lb higher in the weights now and looks the one to beat yet again. Zozimus should play a hand if the race is run to suit and Beltane should give another good account.

15:40 – Distinction

In a contest where few arrive with compelling claims, the suggestion is DISTINCTION, who wasn’t seen to best effect in a stronger race at Pontefract last week, and had been a good second to She’s Got Bottle over course and distance prior to that. Ribkana is still a maiden but she was second here last summer and finished a creditable fourth at Ripon 10 days ago, while Perovskia brings unexposed potential to her handicap debut and also makes the shortlist.

16:10 – Cloudy Rose

CLOUDY ROSE won this race as the second leg of a hat-trick last season, and confirmed herself back in top form when resuming winning ways at Brighton last month, staying on strongly in the final furlong to score by a length. A 3 lb rise leaves her on a good mark based on the pick of her efforts and, under conditions which suit, she is expected to lay down a strong challenge in her pursuit of back-to-back wins in this contest. Peripeteia is a danger down in grade and Night Life is worth keeping in mind back up in distance.

16:40 – Jamih

JAMIH hasn’t won for almost two years, but he is now 7 lb lower than that winning mark, and he took a step back in the right direction with cheekpieces refitted at Catterick 16 days ago. He was arguably a shade unlucky not to win, too, not getting the clearest run and having to pick his way through rivals only to be beaten a neck. He is fancied to make amends now, at the possible expense of Golden Echo, who arrives on the back of an improved showing. Lincoln Rockstar is another one to consider if strong in the betting.

17:15 – Frank The Spark

FRANK THE SPARK is still relatively unexposed and left the impression he’d come on for his reappearance at Newcastle last month, travelling with some promise before fitness seemingly told, so he’s worth chancing from stall 2 and dropped back to five furlongs. His stablemate Yazaman, a recent winner, is an obvious danger and Opal Storm merits consideration.
