Irish 1000 Guineas 2024 trends and stats for Curragh 3.45 on Sunday

Who's got history on their side?

Fallen Angel and Vespertilio

Fallen Angel is bidding to follow in Tahiyra’s hooves by bouncing back from defeat in the 1000 Guineas to win the Irish equivalent at the Curragh.

It has been a well-trod path in recent seasons and the Karl Burke-trained filly is the only horse in the 14-runner field that took in the Newmarket Classic.

A couple of other notable storylines could emerge as Dermot Weld relies on the once-raced Azada in his attempt to saddle the winner for the third year in a row, while Aidan O’Brien fires four darts at the contest in his search for a record-extending 11th success.

Irish 1000 Guineas odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise key historical trends from the last 10 renewals and a tip based off the big-race stats are below.

Irish 1000 Guineas trends

COURSE FORM

Just five winners of the Irish 1000 Guineas had previously raced at the Curragh and only one of those, Tahiyra (2023), enjoyed a successful outing.

DISTANCE FORM

A previous attempt at the mile is hardly the be all and end all because only seven winners had tried the distance before, with five of those scoring.

DRAW

There appears to be little in the way of draw bias as five winners broke from stall eight or lower and the other five from 10 or higher.

FLAT FORM

Marvellous (2014) is the only winner of the last 10 renewals of the Irish 1000 Guineas that failed to meet the trend of three career runs or more on the level.

GROUP FORM

Considering the Irish 1000 Guineas in a Group 1, it is a, perhaps, a tad a surprising that only six winners since 2014 had previously earned black type.

LAST TIME OUT

It pays to have race fitness in the bank as nine winners had their most recent outing within the last 56 days and the only exception to the rule was Peaceful (2020).

Only four horses were in winning form LTO, although a further three were placed.

ODDS

Seven of the last 10 winners could be found in the top three of Paddy Power’s betting for the Irish 1000 Guineas, with the biggest-priced horse to claim the spoils being Empress Josephine (2021), who was available at 14/1.

RATING

Every winner of the race was rated 100 or higher, with eight boasting a figure in excess of 106.

SEASON FORM

A previous outing for the campaign is important because nine winners had already been out on track, with six of those scoring at least once.

Irish 2000 Guineas 2024 trends verdict

The majority of the field, including antepost favourite Opera Singer, fail to meet the most-important trends and VESPERTILIO narrowly beats Fallen Angel to be the pick on account of being placed last time out.
