13:30 Qirat
This is a competitive three-year-old handicap, but the well-bred QIRAT could be some way ahead of his mark. He showed useful form last season, opening his account in style at Kempton on his second start, and improving further in defeat when attempting to give weight to another promising type who has since boosted the form on his final start at Salisbury. Qirat has since been gelded and is built like a horse who will develop into an even better three-year-old, so he makes a fair bit of appeal from an opening mark of 88. The Camden Colt, Brunel Nation and Newsreader are others for the shortlist, while Balmacara could also have a big say.
14:05 Regal Jubilee
REGAL JUBILEE ended last season in top form, opening her account by seven lengths in style at Windsor in October and looking potentially smart as she followed up in a listed event at Newmarket the following month. She ran well on her return in the Fred Darling at Newbury, beaten only a neck, and finishing the same distance in front on subsequent 1000 Guineas winner. She failed by a long way to repeat that form in the 1000 Guineas last time, but it is too soon to crab her on that effort, and on the pick of her form, she should take the beating now moving up to a trip which will suit. Francophone, who ran well in the Musidora at York on her latest outing, looks the danger.
14:35 Jakarta
Experience often counts for plenty here so JAKARTA and Royal Equerry could be the pair to focus on having both shown plenty to work on in decent events at Newmarket and Salisbury respectively, with the former shading the vote given she was the pick on looks when making her debut and is the type to take a marked step forward now. The Hannon stable has won this with some good fillies over the years, including with multiple Group 1 winner Sky Lantern, so the costly Jewel of London looks the pick of the newcomers.
15:10 Get Shirty
It is getting on for nearly two years since GET SHIRTY last won, but as a result he is now 13 lb lower than that mark, and he hasn’t shaped badly in two starts so far this season. Both of those starts have came over a mile and a half, but he is better over further nowadays, and shaped accordingly, having every chance approaching the final furlong last time but one paced at the finish. Get Shirty should be much happier at this distance and he is certainly weighted to strike. Vaguely Royal and True Legend are feared most.
15:45 Meydaan
MEYDAAN created a good impression when making a winning debut over a mile and a quarter at Newcastle in November, doing well to overcome a slow gallop and there was plenty to like about that performance. He was seen to best effect on his return at Newmarket, but ran creditably behind two well-regarded types in the Lingfield Derby Trial last time and, now handed an easier assignment, he is expected to get back on the up with further progress still to come. Space Legend and Lyric, who are also open to improvement, may give him most to think about.
16:20 Crystal Flyer
CRYSTAL FLYER produced a promising first effort when finishing third over a mile at Kempton in November, keeping on without posing a threat in the closing stages and, given her pedigree, it was no surprise to see her take a big step forward upped to a mile and a quarter at Sandown last month. She was doing all of her best work at the finish that day, beaten only by three promising fillies who have boosted the form since, and she looks a big player in this field with further improvement forthcoming. Loving Look wasn’t seen to best effect at Wolverhampton last time and remains open to improvement, while Loves Loving is an interesting newcomer.
16:55 Cloud King
There should be better to come from CLOUD KING, who wasn’t aided by the steady pace when a beaten favourite at Southwell last time, but was very impressive the time before, and he should get a strong gallop to aim at here. Grandlad led from pillar to post when opening his account on the all-weather last time and will pose a threat if able to continue the good work now switched to turf. Kiss And Run should make her presence felt, while Rainyniteingeorgia is also of interest.
