Haydock 13:15 – Son of Man
Son of Man had some very strong juvenile form in the book and doesn’t look overburdened coming back into handicap company from a mark of 95. He was always a little slowly away and managed to stay on late over 7f last season suggesting that the extra yardage is going to suit.
Goodwood 13:30 – Dragon Leader
Dragon Leader picked up a massive amount of prize money last season in a few sales races and was disappointing on his return 15 days ago at Ascot. It’s unlike Clive Cox to turn his horses round as quickly as this and we should take the hint that he has bounced out of that performance in much better order.
Haydock 13:50 – Rogue Lightning
Rogue Lightning was going through the grades very nicely prior to an unlucky effort at the highest level over in France. He subsequently went through the sales ring for £1million and now starts out for the new owners Wathnan Racing. He still has a little bit of that could be anything about him in the sprint division.
Goodwood 14:05 – Regal Jubilee
Regal Jubilee ran a cracker on her return to action at Newbury and then didn’t seem to give her running in the 1,000 Guineas at headquarters. The team back her up fairly quickly and drop her down in grade from Group 1 level to Listed company and she has the added bonus of going an extra quarter mile which should suit.
Haydock 14:25 – Vandeek
We all want to see a superstar and Vandeek could be just that as he heads into his three-year-old campaign. He brings in that perfect 100 per cent record and certainly has the added wow factor in his performances so far. Let’s hope it continues!
York 14:45 – Rabaah
Rabaah was an expensive failure for us just 21 days ago at HQ, where he was far too keen in the early stages and did well considering he was using so much petrol early on. He now drops back down to the minimum 5f trip for the first time and hopefully that has the desired effect to get his career back on track. There is no doubting he has a fair bit of wriggle room off a mark of 95.
Haydock 15:00 – English Oak
English Oak was the only one in his last contest to make any ground on the frontrunning Noble Dynasty over this long sprint distance of 7f. Added to that, it was his return effort so he is naturally going to improve and take a good significant step forward. He should be able to confirm that form with the re-opposing Persuasion.
York 15:20 – River Of Stars
River Of Stars is going for back-to-back wins in this contest and if we look through the race ratings from 12 months ago – this is possibly a weaker renewal. She returned from 261 days away last season and it would appear this has been the target from someway out. She can gain back-to-back successes in this Group 3 stayers’ division.
Haydock 15:30 – Nothing To Sea
Nothing To Sea is the unknown quantity in the line-up and may prove himself to be much better than the handicapper’s mark, judged by the way he’s now rated 97 from just four efforts. The added extra quarter mile looks as if it is well within his compass and we have no idea how far up the ladder he can climb.
Curragh 15:40 – Rosallion
Let’s hope the rain stays away and Rosallion can produce his best performance. He did well considering the way the English 2,000 Guineas was run as he was forward enough in a race that was run at a sprinter’s gallop. The reports are that his work since Newmarket has been exceptional and he has a fitness edge on a few of his rivals.
