13:50 – The Flying Seagull

Preference is for THE FLYING SEAGULL who fared best of the newcomers despite meeting some trouble when a pleasing third behind Teej A on his debut for Hugo Palmer at Chester earlier this month and will have learnt plenty from that outing. Red Sand, who was runner-up on his debut at Bath and will be suited by going the extra furlong here is feared most of those with experience, whilst Ralph Beckett’s Original Outlaw, who cost 300,000 guineas as a yearling, may be the pick of the newcomers.

14:25 – Havaila

With William Buick booked, HAVAILA makes plenty of appeal on his second start for Gary & Josh Moore, the yard responsible for two of the last four winners of this two-mile handicap. He had two of these rivals (Maxident and Plus Point) behind when going close over course and distance last time and a 2 lb nudge for that near miss is fair enough. Temporize enjoyed his finest hour to date here last summer and he has to enter calculations, while Manxman and Pledgeofallegiance are others to consider.

15:00 – Juana Ines

French import JUANA INES shaped nicely on her British debut when a well-backed third behind Hampden Park in a novice at Ascot in October and appeals as the type to do well in staying handicaps for Harry Charlton this year and she gets the nod. Three-year-old True Wisdom is lightly raced and improved when runner-up at Kempton last time, while another of the dangers in this fillies’ handicap is Ya Hafhd who shaped with plenty of encouragement when second on her handicap debut at Doncaster last time.

15:35 – Isle of Jura

ISLE OF JURA got on a real roll in Bahrain over the winter for George Scott, winning four of his five starts there and showing smart form, and is taken to go in again in this listed race on his return to Britain. Sea of Roses ran well in a fillies’ listed race here last time and should go well again, while Royal Rhyme, so impressive in a course-and-distance handicap at last year’s Glorious meeting, would be a major player if taking his chance (also entered at Sandown the previous evening).

16:10 – Wild Tiger

Fit from making the frame in a couple of starts at Meydan, Saeed bin Suroor’s WILD TIGER marked himself down as one to keep onside when running out a ready winner at Yarmouth three weeks ago and, operating from a handy draw, he looks capable of making his mark in this stronger company. Street Kid is a likeable sort and holds claims along with another low-mileage four-year-old in the shape of Be Frank. Toimy Son also needs keeping an eye on from a career-low mark.

16:40 – Zain Blue

A deserved first taste of success beckons for ZAIN BLUE who made a very promising start for John Butler in handicap company at Ascot a fortnight ago when keeping on well for second behind The Ice Phoenix. Aragon Castle is feared on the back of a solid Haydock effort behind Nellie Leylax and he is second choice running off the same mark here, ahead of likely improver Queen’s Reign and recent Nottingham winner Rukaana.

17:10 – Bishops Crown

A case can be made for a few of these in this five-furlong dash but Eve Johnson Houghton’s BISHOP’S CROWN still looks to have more to offer, especially now dropped to the minimum trip for the first time, and he gets the nod after a good second to Baldomero over six furlongs here last time. Spring Bloom is weighted to go close and heads the list of dangers after an encouraging reappearance at Newmarket, although Fair Wind, Angle Land and Night On Earth all need factoring into this very competitive sprint too.
