14:15 York – Korker
Korker started favourite in France recently over this trip but ran a little disappointingly behind Vicious Harry. Although he carries plenty of weight, he was second in this contest last season and has run well at York before and that counts for a lot.
14:30 Salisbury – Pawapuri
A ‘tape’ start for this 1m 6f contest and that won’t suit everyone. Pawapuri looks reasonably handicapped for Nicky Henderson and has two mares’ novice hurdle wins to her name last Autumn on soft ground. She has to face similar conditions today and that won’t bother her now.
14:45 York – Point Lynus
Ed Bethell’s runner Point Lynus has run really well in two big-field handicaps at this venue and looks a very good each-way play in this 7f contest in what looks a tough, open, race.
15:15 York – Bluestocking
With the Gosden’s horses needing their first run I’ll take on the likely market leader Free Wind with Bluestocking. She’s only rated 1lb below the favourite and has already finished in front of her last season. The Ralph Beckett yard is in sparkling form and she can deny Free Wind back-to-back wins in this Group 2 contest.
15:45 York – Ancient Wisdom
The Group 2 Dante Stakes over 1m 2f is a traditional pointer to the Epsom Derby. Ancient Wisdom can stake a real claim on the Colts’ Classic next month as it looks wide open at the minute. The Godolphin runner signed off last year with an impressive win in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes over a mile on heavy ground and can continue his ascent over these extra couple of furlongs on better ground.
16:15 York – Big Evs
Last season’s Windsor Castle Stakes winner blotted his copybook at this venue last season but got back on track with further wins at Doncaster (soft) and Sandown (firm) over this 5f trip. He’s a short price but is rated well ahead of his rivals and can confirm that superiority in what should be another productive season.
