Horse Racing Tips: Rory Delargy’s Wednesday ITV Racing wagers

Rory is all over day one of the Dante Festival at York - and he's sweet on Washington Heights as an each-way pick in the 15:15.

14:15 York – Klondike

You have to pay a lot of attention to any William Haggas runner at York and he’s got Klondike in the opener. He’s the one to beat and he’s got a lot of class. He’s very lightly raced having won in a Newbury maiden before being slightly disappointing after that. He’s had a wind op ahead of his return and he’s got a class edge.

14:30 Ffos Las – Charlies Glance

This is a really competitive race and Charlies Glance might be a little overpriced. He’s got plenty of ability and he was a winner over fences last February over two miles at Huntingdon. He’s back over hurdles at Ffos Las and he’s capable of running a big race. James Martin claims 5lbs which is always a bonus.

14:45 York – Chairmanoftheboard (each-way)

Summerghand tends to be more dangerous towards the end of the season so I’ll side with Chairmanoftheboard, who was an unlucky loser at Newmarket last time out. He finished strongly and ran into third. He wants the going to be good to soft and when it’s in that range, he hasn’t been out of the first three in handicaps on courses that are reasonably flat. He should be placed at least so he’s a great each-way shout.

15:15 York – Washington Heights (each-way) (NAP)

You can’t write many of these off and there are a lot of competitive runners. Azure Blue could go really close if you ignore her July Cup run last time out but I’ve landed on Washington Heights, who has improved a lot from last season. He took a while to peak but he made all on his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket last month. He’s got Art Power two stalls down in stall 10 and that will give him something to run at. He’s got fitness on his side so he’s my each-way shout who’s worth following this year.

15:45 York – Friendly Soul

Friendly Soul won at Newmarket on her seasonal reappearance earlier this month ahead of Kalpana, who is a brilliant horse, while a few of the other runners were also decent. That form is solid and the only doubt is whether it comes too soon after that run considering it was on May 05. She’s exceptional and she’s impossible to oppose.

16:15 York – Thursdays Child (each-way)

Elmonjed is at the top of the market and trainer William Haggas clearly rates him highly, however, he’s drawn in stall 15 which isn’t ideal. He could find his stamina stretched over 7f and he’s a short price so I’m with Thursdays Child for Micky Hammond. She’s won her two outings and she won with a lot in hand at Pontefract last time out. The Hammond stable is in form and she’s quite well bred. The return to 7f should suit her and she provides each-way value.
