A 1m 4f contest to start in York, where CHILLINGHAM has proved his versatility and can be a major player here. He’s not badly drawn in stall three and has a good recent run behind him, when third to Sea King at Ripon last time. Even if the forecasted rain arrives, it shouldn’t deter his supporters.
14:30 Ffos Las – Kansas Du Berlais
We swap to a 2m handicap hurdle for one televised race at the Welsh track and KANSAS DU BERLAIS is trying to make amends after being beaten last time by the front-running Hecouldbetheone on good ground, who never came back into the field. The soft ground should help Adam West’s runner gain some compensation.
14:45 York – Makanah (Each Way)
The 6f sprinters get their chance next where Julio Camacho’s MAKANAH catches my eye from a 6lb lower mark than when third in this contest last year. I’m confident he’s a solid each-way play after a good opening run of the season at Newmarket last time.
15:15 York – Spycatcher
The booking of top jockey Ryan Moore for SPYCATCHER looks significant for trainer Karl Burke in the Group 2 Clipper Stakes. The six-year-old is ultra consistent and is rarely out of the frame, including when third last time on a seasonal debut to Washington Heights, in the Group 3 Abernant Stakes at Newmarket.
15:45 York – Friendly Soul
The feature race on the card is the Group 3 Muisidora Stakes where the Gosdens’ FRIENDLY SOUL heads the market. She is related to a lot of good stayers in her pedigree and beat Kalpana well last time in a Listed contest at Newmarket.
16:15 York – Elmonjed
William Haggas sends the unbeaten ELMONJED north for this 7f handicap to start his three-year-old campaign. He gets in here off a rating of 90 but is entered in a Listed race at Newbury this weekend also, so the clues are there as to how the stable rate him. This could be a stepping stone to better things.
