14:15 Assertively

ASSERTIVELY was strong in the market and duly landed good support when making a winning debut at Ripon last month, showing plenty of speed and displaying a very willing attitude to hold off another promising newcomer. There should be even more to come from him now and he is expected to defy a penalty before having his sights raised further. East Tyrone and Rajeteriat have a similar chance in receipt of weight after their promising debuts and head up the dangers.

14:45 Lochaber

LOCHABER was well suited by the switch back to more positive riding tactics when runner-up to a thriving sort over six furlongs at Doncaster recently, rallying well in the closing stages, and with the return to the minimum trip holding no fears, he looks a big player down in grade with the cheekpieces which had a positive effect last time retained. Vanity Pays holds good claims on these terms if bouncing back down in class, with Better, on debut for Paul Midgley, also entering calculations.

15:15 Digital

DIGITAL produced his best effort to date for Ruth Carr from his sliding mark when a close third at Wetherby 16 days ago, showing plenty of speed and, from a handy draw, he could be worth chancing to build on that effort returned to the minimum trip. Ghathanfar (engaged to run at Catterick on Monday) lurks on a very handy mark and is feared. Burj Malinka and Emeralds Pride complete the shortlist.

15:45 Sound Reason

A winner from a 4lb higher mark over this course and distance last summer, SOUND REASON ought to be sharper for his reappearance and debut for this yard at Pontefract three weeks ago where he left the impression he’d come on for the run and, with the headgear refitted, he could well be worth siding with to take a step forward now returned to a likely sounder surface. Catterick-scorer Fortunate Star and Haveagomecca are others to consider, along with Herakles.

16:15 Young Fire

YOUNG FIRE ran well having been caught wider than ideal when fourth at Thirsk 10 days ago, having nothing left to give in the closing stages and, lurking on a very dangerous mark, he could well be worth chancing in the hope he gets the gaps with his usual visor refitted. Beltane is another on a handy mark and feared along with the thriving She’s Got Bottle who steps back up in class in pursuit of the hat-trick. Lennys Spirit is also in the mix.

16:45 Knight Templar

KNIGHT TEMPLAR never figured in a handful of starts as a two-year-old, starting at big prices on each occasion, but he’s just the type his shrewd stable will do well with in handicaps, so he could be the way to go on his reappearance upped to a trip more in line with his pedigree. Straight A and L’eagle Aid are a couple of others to consider.

17:15 Miss Gitana

MISS GITANA improved on her exploits as a juvenile without being seen to best effect when fourth at Yarmouth two weeks ago, and with the likelihood of even more to come, she earns the vote to confirm the promise of that run stepping up further in trip which ought to suit. Recent course winner Spartan Warrior and Walter Hartright are others fancied to feature, with Solar Bentley another who may appreciate this further increase in trip.
