13:15 Apricot Ice

She has twice been narrowly beaten by Ballydoyle-trained rivals in 7f maidens but APRICOT ICE is the one to beat on that form and can get the better of Aidan O’Brien’s Igor Stravinsky although he is open to plenty of improvement after just the one start. Hilasmos and White Clover have each-way claims.

13:50 Highbury

He was getting the message late on when half a length behind Himalayan Heights at Cork and HIGHBURY can turn the tables on that rival here. The other Ballydoyle runner Vice President is ridden by a 7lb claimer but is not one to disregard by any means.

14:25 Buttons (NAP)

The first thought was to look no further than impressive Goffs Million winner One Look but the addition of a tongue-tie is disconcerting and we’ll take her on with BUTTONS (NAP), a real eyecatcher here over 7f last month. Ameilya is from a small yard but won well at Gowran and could outrun her likely odds.

15:00 Bold Discovery

Very tricky. Ground concerns for last year’s winner Power Under Me and a question mark over the trip for the progressive Yosemite Valley. We’ll take a chance on BOLD DISCOVERY who will like the ground and goes well fresh. He might be all the better for being gelded. The Weld runner Knight To King drops down to a mile for the first time and is talented enough to contend too.

15:35 Los Angeles

Aidan O’Brien has won this recognised Derby trial 15 times and with some of his greats. If there’s a future star on show this year it’s LOS ANGELES, a sizeable colt who should be much better at three and he already has Group 1 honours on the board. Euphoric has been a little underwhelming considering he cost a fortune but, with his yard going through the gears this week, he could easily improve enormously on his Cork run and reverse those placings with Bremen.

16:10 Ob La Di

Aidan O’Brien won this last year with the top-class Warm Heart who was beaten in her first two races and yet whether Fleetingly has her potential is questionable. She’s still a solid candidate on her Naas form, as is Finsceal Luas on her good-ground effort at the Curragh last season. Lope De Lilas and Comic Book seem well regarded and very capable of stepping up on their initial efforts, but OB LA DI might be the answer if able to build on her eyecatching debut here a month ago. As a daughter of Blue Point (dam brings stamina), this quicker surface should be beneficial.

16:45 Ethical Diamond

Saturn is so well bred that he might yet leave last season’s form behind with another winter behind him, while Global Energy won’t be far away if testing ground isn’t key. However, ETHICAL DIAMOND returns to the Flat for the first time since winning a 1m4f maiden last summer, after which he changed hands for big money. His hurdling campaign failed to live up to expectations but he still finished sixth in a Grade 1 here and winter ground was probably not his thing.

17:20 Ortelius

Aidan O’Brien has won many a handicap with horses bound for Group races and such ambitions remain realistic for ORTELIUS who could be seriously underestimated off a mark of 85. It was a highly encouraging return here last month on heavy ground that he probably hated. Invention, representing last year’s winning connections, was hot on the selection’s heels that day and he too should improve for today’s longer trip. Easy maiden winner Cow Chico is also bred to progress to better things and is by no means ruled out.
