17:20 – Sergio Parisse
Of those with experience Ant Colony looks comfortably the most interesting having shaped with promise in a hot race at Newbury three weeks ago. He was green under pressure there, and should fare better this time, but there are some newcomers of note in opposition. Uncle Sam and Holbrook are considered but SERGIO PARISSE is related to several winning sprinters and this first-season sire has made a flying start to his stallion career.
17:55 – Five Winds (NAP)
This looks a lively race for the grade and there are several interesting contenders. Catherine Chroi has been in fine form since returning to Iain Jardine’s yard, but she’s 11lb higher than Sunday’s Hamilton win, and she’ll need a third consecutive personal best on her 57th racecourse appearance. Blue Collar Lad, Shark Two One, Captain Dandy and Rwenearlytheredad are on the shortlist but the two against the field are Gherkin and FIVE WINDS (NAP).
The former travelled strongly on his return and today’s conditions may suit better but the preference is for Jack Jones’s unexposed filly. Her two handicap runs, both over 7f, were promising and there’s a good chance she’ll take a step forward tackling this trip for the first time.
18:25 – Rogue Tornado
Fiddlers Green has won three of his last four races and took his last two by wide margins when returning to turf. The handicapper has now had his say, which he didn’t last time, but another win for John O’Shea’s 5yo would be no surprise. There are alternatives, including ROGUE TORNADO, who was solid in his four handicaps last term, and D Day Arvalenreeva who is on the same mark as when winning over C&D last May
18:55 – Sir Maxi
This looks competitive. Bell Shot has rediscovered his enthusiasm for Mick Appleby and looks booked for another big run, while Valtellina and Al Muqdad still have potential and Wake Up Harry could yet transfer his AW form to grass. The two against the field are Alseeyerthere, who moved through her Doncaster reappearance like a mare who was ahead of her mark, and SIR MAXI. He is on a handy mark again and his flop in the mud at Catterick is easy enough to forgive.
19:25 – Cavalry Call
Fair Point sets the standard and holds solid claims but the drying ground might not be ideal on today’s trip. Saeed bin Suroor has won this race with a newcomer in two of the last five runs and Historic City is an interesting debutant, as is Westridge. The regally bred Waleefy shouldn’t be far away but CAVALRY CALL shaped with some promise in the Wood Ditton, splitting a pair that have since run well in calmer waters. He can find sufficient improvement to make it second time lucky.
19:55 – Tobetso
An interesting contest. The in-form Nivoko (second choice) and Law Supreme will both be popular, while there are several others for whom cases can be made. Those include TOBETSO, who should be better for his reappearance and, in less testing conditions, could prove up to the task.
20:25 – Angel On High
A weak contest where those at the head of the handicap are the ones to concentrate on. If conditions continue to dry up that will probably enhance the claims of Isle Of Wolves, while last-time winner Crazy Crackers could go well in his follow-up attempt after a 3lb rise. However, ANGEL ON HIGH returned to better form last time and, with course form a plus, he can go one better.
