1:30 Chester – Dancing Magic (each-way)
ITV Racing on Friday gets underway here with a handicap over nearly 1m. DANCING MAGIC has yet to win a race but was an exciting horse once when fourth behind Auguste Rodin in the 2022 Group 1 Vertem Futurity at Doncaster. He’s now handicapping and down to a mark that he seems able to do something with judged buy a sixth to Metal Merchant in the Spring Cup at Newbury. For a horse who can go forward, he has a decent draw in stall three so this might be the moment for a big run, an each-way chance for Roger Teal and William Buick a good jockey booking.
1:50 Ascot – Accumulate
ITV also show one race from Ascot Friday which is this handicap for 3yo over 7f. ACCUMULATE might just be much better than this talented field for Roger Varian and James Doyle. Second on debut at this track last season, he scored at Newmarket and Lingfield. The Newmarket form has been franked in the last week by co-incidence and he could be a Group horse in the making.
2:05 Chester – Mr Hampstead
MR HAMPSTEAD ran as if he was crying out for this trip when fourth over 1m2f at Newbury on his seasonable debut behind Voyage. It is hard to know what the form is worth but he has some ability and should run well at this trip for David Egan and Roger Varian.
2:35 Chester – Box To Box
BOX TO BOX is a winner at this track off 88 and should have every chance here now rated 94. He can make the running if need be or sit off the pace and should be fit enough after two runs in Bahrain in February. William Buick is on for Hugo Palmer.
3:05 Chester – Passenger
PASSENGER promised much last season for Sir Michael Stoute when taking the Wood Ditton at Newmarket but flopped in the Derby before banging in a Group 3 at Windsor. If back fit and ready he’ll go well under Richard Kingscote. He still has the potential to improve.
3:40 Chester – Zoffee (each-way)
The Shunter is fascinating. ZOFFEE might be the each-way horse here for Hugo Palmer and young Harry Davies from the inside box. My selection is not badly handicapped off a mark of 90 and has a lovely racing weight of 8st 7lb. Yes, he’s not getting any younger, but he should be fit as he was jumping not that long ago and he finished second in this last year off 93 and fourth in the 2022 Cesarewitch off 93 as well. He stays, has a good draw, and goes well at the track. He also goes on any ground.
