13:30 Chester – Democracy Dilemma
I have been impressed with Robert Cowell’s form of late, particularly with his sprinters. DEMOCRACY DILEMMA looks very likely to get out in the lead, ahead of Roman Dragon. Clearpoint could be one who looks to try and take the lead, but he got a bump at Chester last time. Copper Knight will probably pop up at some stage this season, but I don’t fancy him here. Form favours Democracy Dilemma, everything is ideal for him, with the very good Tom Marquand on board and the ground will suit him.
13:50 Huntingdon – King Of The Road
The likely favourite KING OF THE ROAD did show some signs of temperament last time out, but he made all the running at Market Rasen, having done the same at that track at the end of March. It looked like he’d have it all his own way in that one, but he met a strong challenge from Commanding View. He flashed his tail twice as he came in to win. Despite that, he’s still well handicapped enough to win with 12st 1lb on his back, and that should be plenty of weight for a five-year-old.
14:05 Chester – The Flying Seagull
I’m backing THE FLYING SEAGULL. A €65,000 yearling, son of Kodiac, and in a race where it is difficult to form conclusions, looks to be the best option. Passing Phase is an interesting one, after finishing third at The Curragh, and the will improve. A difficult one to call, but The Flying Seagull is the one who caught my eye.
14:35 Chester – Celtic Warrior (Each Way)
I much rather go for a small bet on a horse like CELTIC WARRIOR at double figure odds than a big one on the likely favourite Never So Brave. He does look a little bit more exposed, but he’s improved in his last couple of starts, and his improvement has come through maturity. He ran quite well on the all weather and his best run as a two-year-old came at Chelmsford. He was well beaten at Doncaster, but his pedigree suggests he doesn’t need to run on the all weather to perform and he looks ready to step up over the extended distance.
15:05 Chester – Brackens Laugh
There is not much to choose between the five declared runnrs. For me, the one that might just be underrated here is BRACKENS LAUGH who will be a similar price to Capulet. However, Bracken’s Laugh beat Capulet pretty easily last time, in the Woodford Reserve Cardinal Conditions Stakes at Chelmsford. He kicked on towards the end and held off Orne. He was a slight shock winner in that one, but was clearly the best horse on the day, and a winner on his debut at Newbury too.
15:40 Chester – Point Lonsdale
The obvious pick in this one is POINT LONSDALE, but there is a question mark over whether he is a stayer at this distance of 1m 5f. There is a reasonable chance that Ryan Moore will be able to get him to the front, and make this into a tactical race, using his speed to win. Distance could be an issue, but I can see him getting out in front, and slowing things down to nick it on the home turn.
