13:30 – Stash The Cash
It’s hard to overcome a high draw at Chester and you want a mid to low draw. Old Chums will be popular and he could jump out into the lead but he’ll have to work hard to keep it and he could be vulnerable closer to the finish. I like Stash The Cash for Tim Easterby as he is well treated by the handicapper. He can come off a strong pace and he’s got decent form including his win at Catterick last time out. He impressed that day and he should be good with Wednesday’s conditions, while the 6f distance is no issue.
14:05 – Arabian Cobra
I’m struggling to side with any of the runners who won last time out so I’m with Arabian Cobra for Oisin Murphy and Hugo Palmer. He’s drawn in stall seven, which isn’t ideal, but he’s well bred and he’s owned by Michael Owen, who always targets the May meeting at Chester. Night In Paris seems the main threat after her second at Ripon last time out.
14:35 – Vince L’Amour (NAP)
Vince LAmour is looking for a three-timer and his form ties in with my first pick Stash The Cash, who beat Tim Easterby’s runner at Catterick in April. Vince LAmour bounced back by winning at Ripon and Catterick on his last two starts and he can make that three in a row. He won with a fair bit in hand last time out and he finds it easy to go forward early on. He’s got a naturally high cruising speed without using up a lot of energy. The handicapper has put him up 8lbs but he can show improvement.
15:05 – Beeley
This is a tricky race and Beeley for John and Thady Gosden is interesting. She’s very well bred and the form she’s shown so far is on par with the other runners in here. She’s got scope to improve and although she could go the other way as she’s got loose twice, she could be the dark horse in this race.
15:40 – Cadogan Place
Grosvenor Square is probably the horse to beat but can you be piling into Aidan O’Brien’s runners, especially at almost odds-on? Hidden Law finished second on his debut behind Cadogan Place at Southwell and he followed that up with a win at Newbury last month. It’s between Cadogan Place and Hidden Law – and I’ll side with Andrew Balding’s runner.
