13:10 – Star Guest

The drop to sprinting was the making of STAR GUEST last season, winning her last two starts in handicaps over this trip on the July Course, and she can maintain her unbeaten record at this trip on her return to action for a William Buick and Charlie Appleby jockey/trainer combination who do so well at this track. Three-year-olds have a good record in this, so the speedy Dorothy Lawrence must be respected down in class, while there’s not much between Funny Story, Silent Words and Unequal Love judged on a similar event here in the autumn.

13:45 – Summerghand

A fiendishly competitive sprint handicap with several in with a squeak but it’s the David O’Meara-trained veteran SUMMERGHAND, who went into many a notebook with his fast-finishing fifth from a hopeless position (also met trouble) over course and distance last month, when selected to come out on top. He can get the better of Chairmanoftheboard, who bounced back to his best in refitted headgear at Newbury last month, with Apollo One, Noble Style and Sterling Knight all fancied to go well, too.

14:20 – Torito

TORITO progressed well last season, making the most of a good opportunity to open his account at Nottingham and he went on to win a competitive handicap over a mile and a quarter at Epsom in June, where he beat a couple of progressive sorts who were ahead of their marks. Torito ran to a similar level when hitting the frame in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot when last seen and he remains open to further improvement on his return to action back in handicap company. The big-field handicap over a mile at the Craven meeting looks to be a key piece of form here, with Dutch Decoy, Theoryofeverything, Bopedro and Majestic four from that race.

14:55 – Mitbaahy

MITBAAHY made a really encouraging start for Charlie Hills when finishing fourth in the Abernant Stakes over six furlongs at this course a fortnight ago, and with stablemate Equality no longer a runner, he looks the way to go dropped back to the minimum trip for a yard that do very well with sprinters. Twilight Calls has surprisingly failed to make a breakthrough in pattern company but his record fresh is encouraging, while three-year-old Beautiful Diamond a fascinating runner, also.

15:35 – City Of Troy

Aidan O’Brien has made little secret of the fact that he regards CITY OF TROY as the best two-year-old he’s trained and, given his pedigree, he should develop into an even better three-year-old. This Timeform top rated pick can provide the master of Ballydoyle with a record-extending eleventh win in the first Classic of the season. Rosallion was also highly promising in his juvenile season and can give City of Troy the most to do, ahead of Notable Speech, who didn’t make his debut until January but has quickly established himself as a top prospect with three wins on the all-weather at Kempton.

16:10 – Youthful King

YOUTHFUL KING has been running consistently well of late and, having fared best of those held up when a staying-on fifth on his most recent outing at Kempton, he gets the nod to come out on top back on turf in an open event. Real Dream is a low-mileage five-year-old who could have more to offer this season, whilst Knightswood completes the shortlist having returned better than ever at Ripon last week.

16:45 – Shagraan

There are plenty to consider in this handicap for three-year-olds, but SHAGRAAN may well have made a successful reappearance on his debut for Mick Appleby with a clear passage at Sandown last week and, now back over six furlongs, he can confirm himself to be ahead of his mark. James’s Delight is back in a more suitable race and commands respect, with Eye of Dubai another going the right way.

17:15 – Indivar

Unsurprisingly, plenty arrive with claims and with that in mind, INDIVAR could represent a spot of value. He was a comfortable winner on his final start at Redcar in the autumn, and he returned with an encouraging third in a handicap over this course and distance at the Craven meeting last month, so this well-bred sort is taken to build on that promise. Pedro Valentino is another expected to come on for his return and is respected along with Purefoy.

17:50 – Rowayeh

ROWAYEH beat a listed winner at Sandown last season and starts her four-year-old season on a mark which still appeals as workable, so gets the nod over Crack Shot, who rates as one that should have more to offer in this kind of environment despite a slightly underwhelming show at Cambridge when last seen. Bodorgan ran well here at the Craven meeting so gets the favour for third over the still-unexposed Bystander.
