Horse Racing Tips: Matt Chapman’s Saturday ITV Racing Picks at Newmarket Goodwood & Thirsk

Matt Chapman is keen on Alynaabi (15:35) in the first of the season's Classics - the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket as a value play against City of Troy.

13:45 Newmarket – Sterling Knight (each-way)

ITV Racing Saturday mixes Newmarket, Goodwood and Thirsk starting here with a handicap over 6f.

Noble Style compresses the weights here and he could outclass the lot having once finished 6th in a 2000 Guineas. I’m happy to take a chance in here on a big-priced runner and the one I’ll risk is STERLING KNIGHT for Ed Dunlop and David Probert. The selection returned with a cracking third at Doncaster in a big field and he goes off the same mark here. He stays 6f strong and if held up off a decent gallop might make some late progress. A few quid each-way.

14:05 Goodwood – Orchid Bloom

One Listed race from Goodwood in the Conqueror over 1m. I never worry about fitness from the William Haggas stable and ORCHID BLOOM should give us a good run for our money. She was honest last season managing to win well at Newbury and finished a decent third in Listed class at Haydock. It goes in deep ground which is a major plus.

14:20 Newmarket – Majestic (each-way)

MAJESTIC might be overpriced here for Jack Channon and David Probert again. The former Cambridgeshire winner was far from disgraced on comeback at this track when fifth off this mark and if a little fitter for that effort should have an each-way chance. Goes on any ground.

14:40 Thirsk – Pisanello (each-way)

I would have thought PISANELLO would have been laid out for this on seasonal debut and have an each-way chance for David O’Meara and Mark Winn, who takes off a useful 3lb. The selection was second last year off 82 and is 4lb higher here, but he has a perfect inside draw to just drop in and then look for a late run up the rail. He’ll need some luck, but conditions are ideal.

14:55 Newmarket – Twighlight Calls

TWILIGHT CALLS didn’t do much last season although he showed at Royal Ascot the ability was still there when fourth in the King’s Stand Stakes. It would appear he’s difficult to train but if he’s anywhere near his best he will be hard to beat for Henry Candy and Ryan Moore.

15:35 Newmarket – City Of Troy & Alynaabi (each-way)

CITY OF TROY might face some strong pace pressure from Haatem but to be honest, the small field should help him if he wants to dictate and it’s hard to oppose the Dewhurst winner who was easily the best juvenile around with a rating of 125, compared to Rosallion’s mark of 117. I would suggest Dewhurst runner-up ALYANAABI as the best value of the bigger-priced animals if you want to play an each-way chance.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
