Horse Racing Tips: A 17/2 play will certainly do at Hexham today

16:25 – Baron De Midleton

A race that looks very difficult can go to BARON DE MIDLETON, who is unreliable these days but has a sound chance on his best form. Wotyoudunnow Buddy has plenty to find but it would be no surprise were he to prove the biggest danger.

17:00 – Empty Nest (NAP)

Stowaway John (second choice) came good with a clearcut win over C&D in March and is a big player again if he can back that up. Heeztheboy is still unexposed as a chaser, while course specialist Cudgel is respected after his sequence of runner-up efforts this year. However, the vote goes to 6yo EMPTY NEST (nap), who has shown plenty of promise since switching to chasing in November and could be a major force on this drop back in trip.

 

17:35 – Wavelength

The choice is WAVELENGTH, who took this race in 2022, and although he had a long break afterwards, he showed when third at Carlisle in February that he retains plenty of ability. Market Rasen winner Benny Baloo and recent C&D third Cowboy Cooper should also run well.

18:10 – Choosethenews

Some interesting runners here, notably the former very useful Willie Mullins hurdler Whatdeawant who is having his second start over fences. He should go well on his debut for his new yard after a break but a safer option looks to be CHOOSETHENEWS, who stayed on gamely when winning at Newcastle and should improve on that.

18:45 – Wilful

The most obvious answer is WILFUL, who built upon his good hurdling debut when breezing to a 28l success at Fontwell in March. Le Jeune Bresil can pose a potent threat if back on song but he was pulled up on his last two appearances and comes with significant risk attached. Kelso runner-up Walk On Quest may reward each-way support.

19:15 – Speed Davis

An interesting contest, with Bold Light meeting SPEED DAVIS on 7lb better terms for just over 4l last time and looking an attractive proposition as a result. However, the selection may be better suited to this trip than his reopposing rival and gets the nod. Lightning Flash and Breizh River are others who should be involved.

19:50 – Tedley

A few of these warrant consideration but top of the list is TEDLEY, who ran well in defeat over 2m5f at Ludlow last month and looks quite interesting now dropped back in trip and tried in cheekpieces. Hartur D’Oudairies got his career back on track with a creditable second at Musselburgh four weeks ago and will be dangerous if his revival starts to gather momentum. Good cases can also be made for Horn Cape, Two Auld Pals and Coniston George.

20:25 – Boolamore Classic

This looks wide open and it’s possible to make cases for Guernesey, Ballin Bay, Paramaribo (next best) and Glory Hights. Last-time-out Ayr winner Better Be Definite also enters the reckoning but his unexposed stablemate BOOLAMORE CLASSIC looked likely to be involved in the finish before unseating at Ayr last time and, with this longer trip probably a positive, he is the tentative suggestion to come good.
