14:25 Newmarket – Endless Victory
ITV Racing goes to Newmarket and Goodwood on Friday starting here with the Listed Newmarket Stakes for 3yo over 1m 2f. A small field and ENDLESS VICTORY is currently not the best on paper – but I suspect he will be the best after the event. The unbeaten son of Teofilo is bred to stay well and looked promising in a novice at Newmarket – the third High Order bolted up at Southwell earlier in the week. Charlie Appleby trains with William Buick on top.
14:40 Goodwood – Ellomate
Here’s a novice stakes for juveniles over 5f. Not much to go on here, but ELLOMATE was strongly fancied on debut at Wolverhampton and might well be able to reverse the form with the winner Lady Lightning. Ellomate hung left on that occasion and in the hope that was just being green on debut the son of Mehmas might well be a different proposition here for Richard Hughes and Finley Marsh, the man with the magic hands.
15:00 Newmarket – Thunder Ball (each-way)
This is a handicap over 7f. THUNDER BALL might well make the frame here for Paul & Oliver Cole despite humping 9st 7lb under Alec Voikhansky. My hope will want a strong gallop to run at, or make the running if there is no pace, but he’s a pretty good horse on a going day as he showed when seventh in the Canbridgeshire before scoring at Goodwood last term. He’s been dropped 1lb for a very fair fourth in the Spring Cup at Newbury and while 7f is on the short side I think he’ll go all right.
15:15 Goodwood – SPANISH STAR
Now a handicap over 6f. SPANISH STAR hasn’t won for a while but this is a chance off 90 for Pat Chamings and David Probert. A seventh at Goodwood in the Stewards’ Cup is decent handicap form as is the fifth behind Witch Hunter in the Buckingham Palace Stakes over 7f. If he gets a good pace to run at he will come home strong.
15:35 Newmarket – BOILING POINT
Another Listed event here in the King Charles II Stakes for 3yo over 7f. BOILING POINT was an expensive loser when last seen but can change that here for James Doyle and Roger Varian. My selection was 4-5 to defeat Bold Style last time and ended up just one place in front of that re-opposing rival. However, if the son of Too Darn Hot needed that a little I’d expect the form to be confirmed.
15:50 Goodwood – KING’S LYNN
A handicap over 5f. I don’t like any of these for different reasons so will chance the massively dropped in the handicap KING’S LYNN who has Callum Hutchinson taking off 3lb for the in form Andrew Balding. Including the claim that means my hope is 13lb lower when sixth in the Portland Handicap last year and it might just be the seven-year-old could get back to winning ways.
16:10 Newmarket – ASTRO KING
The class event of the day in the Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes over 1m4f. I’m going to chance ASTRO KING here as he steps up to this distance for the first time. Danny and Claire Kubler’s stable star was running on strongly over 1m1f when second to Ottoman Fleet in the Earl of Sefton and while this is three furlongs further, I have a feeling he might relish 1m4f. One thing that should help is there looks a strong gallop assured.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
