There’s not much to separate CANDONOMORE and Welcome Dream in this maiden but the former probably has the greater scope for further progress after only three starts for Tim Easterby last year and has proven himself in testing conditions so he gets the nod. He came within a short head of making a successful debut at York last season and he shaped well in a valuable event at the same track on his final start when still looking immature. Welcome Dream has been placed in four of his five starts and has a recent run under his belt.

14:10 Sacred Falls

SACRED FALLS proved to be a model of consistency on turf last season for Katie Scott, winning at Ayr in October among several placed efforts, and is entitled to be sharper for her reappearance run when fifth at Southwell earlier this month so she could be worth siding with to build on that with victory here. Course-and-distance winner Cold Stare cashed in on his reduced mark on heavy ground at Thirsk last Saturday and he’s a danger up 6lb in the weights, with Harry’s Halo and Havana Rum another couple to consider.

14:45 Rainbow Fire

Marco Botti has his string in good nick so his handily-weighted RAINBOW FIRE is fancied to repeat his success of twelve months ago in this good-quality seven-furlong handicap. He’s back on the same mark as when successful last year after a couple of runs on the all-weather. Irish challenger Earls shaped well when only beaten a nose in a big field at the Curragh last Saturday and heads the list of dangers, although the returning Gweedore, 2022 winner Boardman and course-and-distance scorer Zip also enter calculations.

15:20 Shelbourne

George Scott’s SHELBOURNE underlined his liking for testing conditions when an impressive winner over six furlongs at Catterick on his reappearance earlier this month and, on similar ground, he’s capable of following up if the extra furlong doesn’t stretch him. The trip won’t be an issue for Miners Gamble who’s bred to stay further still and likely to up his game on a first try at this distance and Princess Alex should be better for her reappearance after her fourth behind the selection last time.

15:53 Shemozzle

There was plenty to like about the way the well-supported SHEMOZZLE knuckled down against a rival with a run under her belt when making a winning debut in a novice at Newmarket in the autumn and this looks like a good opportunity for Ralph Beckett’s filly to defy a penalty. Bright Thunder, an expensive daughter of Night of Thunder, looks an interesting newcomer for Karl Burke so must be respected for a yard that can ready one.

16:28 Von Baer

This looks like a good opportunity for VON BAER to open his account. The Brian Meehan-trained colt ran his best race last year when second on heavy ground in a conditions race at Salisbury, while his reappearance third behind Mr Baloo on his handicap debut at Kempton was encouraging. Aragon Castle was well below par on return at Bath but can be expected to leave that behind here and he is feared most. Offer And Receive is open to improvement and should also have a part to play.

17:00 Northern Cracksman

NORTHERN CRACKSMAN was a touch keener than ideal when finishing runner-up to Diddy Man at Newcastle earlier this month but, with a change of headgear this time, Brian Ellison’s charge is fancied to go a place better at the expense of Quick Away, who showed improved form under a canny front-running ride when touched off late at Southwell last time and looks sure to be in the mix again. Amancio and Due Consideration can do battle for third.
