13:15 Sandown – Hedge Fund
ITV Racing Friday comes from Sandown and Perth starting here with a handicap over 5f. I always find these sprints very tough but HEDGE FUND is well drawn to at least give the field a target to run at for William Muir and Chris Grassick. My hope has plenty of experience and ran in some decent company last season including a Listed class. He returned at Bath with a fair second and, if there is any rain he will appreciate all that comes. Lewis Edmunds rides.
13:30 Perth – Dominic’s Fault
DOMINIC’S FAULT has to be interesting for Sean Bowen and Olly Murphy. The lightly raced seven-year-old won at Leicester before finishing third to Yellow Star at Lingfield. He should still have more to give off 107.
13:50 Sandown – Hand Of God
There is a smaller field than most years and the one I’m interested in is HAND OF GOD in the hope he goes back of the net for Ryan Moore and Harry Charlton. My selection showed promise at Ffos Las and Salisbury before landing a Newmarket maiden in style last October. A mark of 88 looks fair and he has a good draw to work on. Form suggests he goes on any ground although he was a non-runner on soft one day.
14:05 Perth – Breeze Of Wind
BREEZE OF WIND made a crucial mistake against the re-opposing Tom Cody when challenging at Carlisle last time but kept on well after that to finish fourth. That suggests he remains in good form and isn’t completely in the handicapper’s grip. Sam Coltherd is on top for his old man Stuart.
14:25 Sandown – Desert Hero
DESERT HERO is the one for me; I think he still has more to show us. Some will say this trip is too short in what could be a tactical race after his third in the St Leger. But I think he’s an honest type, who has always had a bit more speed than people have thought. Indeed, he probably got outstayed at Doncaster. Tom Marquand is jocked up for the quality William Haggas team.
15:00 Sandown – Nostrum
Now a fascinating race, with NOSTRUM easily the most interesting but it’s hard to have any confidence he will show his best. There have been glimmers of brilliance from Nostrum, but he was awful in his last run last season and no reason seems to have come to light. I hope he’s a typical older horse improver for Sir Michael Stoute and Ryan Moore, a great renewal.
15:35 Sandown – Macduff
Arabian Crown and MACDUFF are the two I’m concentrating on here. Rossa Ryan and Ralph Beckett went close in this race back in the day with Westover, so I’m tempted by Macduff. The Royal Lodge fourth stayed on well that day against Ghostwriter – having hung slightly right when starting to challenge stands side – and is bred to love this distance.
