Useful bumper winner DR EGGMAN has proved expensive to follow over the hurdles and has suffered odds-on defeats on his last two outings but he has been given a nice opportunity to get off the mark over jumps here. He was disappointing at Naas last time but sets a clear standard on the pick of his efforts. Rattling Road has shown run-by-run improvement in three starts over hurdles and shaped well when third at Wetherby last month so he appeals as the main danger
14:20 – Clonakilty
CLONAKILTY was disappointing at Leicester on his penultimate start but he quickly resumed his progress at Southwell a few weeks ago, landing that novice handicap to make it two wins from his last three starts. He was fitted with cheekpieces for the first time, travelled well, led before two out and quickened clear on the run-in to score by four and a half lengths. He jumped to the right at Southwell so should be better suited by this right-handed track and he could still have more to offer as a chaser.
14:55 – El Elefante
Dual bumper winner EL ELEFANTE made an impressive debut over hurdles here in September, thrashing a field containing three previous winners over jumps. She found things a bit more difficult in better company on her next few outings but made the most of the drop in grade to return to winning ways at Ayr last month. She looked set to improve on that form on her handicap debut at Newbury last time only to fall at the final flight when in a narrow lead. Given how the eventual winner scooted clear in the run-in, it’s likely El Elefante would have had to settle for second but, even so, that sort of form gives her strong claims in receipt of weight in this listed event on her first try at three miles.
15:25 – Malina Girl
MALINA GIRL has some smart handicap chase form to her name, including a ten-length success in a three-and-a-quarter-mile event at Cheltenham in November. She was well on top there and may well have defied an 11 lb hike in the weights back at Cheltenham the following month had she not fallen at the third last when still looking full of running. She’s not been so good in three starts since then, but it’s easy to overlook her latest effort over hurdles, which provided an insufficient stamina test and she looks a big player based on her Cheltenham efforts.
15:55 – Figaroc
FIGAROC needs to cut out the costly errors but the way he shaped when third at Gowran Park on his handicap chase debut on his penultimate start suggests he’s capable of winning from this sort of mark. He may well have gone close at Gowran had he not clouted the second last, while a mistake also harmed his chances at Fairyhouse last time, putting him on the back foot as the race started to develop. This represents a drop in grade and may help him bounce back.
16:25 – Sunday Soldier
SUNDAY SOLDIER has made significant progress this season and registered her fifth win in a row when scoring at Musselburgh three weeks ago. She made smooth headway from the rear, quickened to lead before the last and went at least two lengths clear before holding on by half a length from the reopposing Similar Story. The way she went through that race and settled matters with a telling burst suggests she can remain competitive from this 6 lb higher mark and she’s taken to extend her winning sequence.
16:55 – Heard That
HEARD THAT failed to make much of an impact in a novice hurdles but he finished in the frame on all three starts in handicaps and was only beaten by three-quarters of a length when runner-up on his penultimate outing at Wetherby. He shaped like a stiffer test of stamina would suit when fourth at Newcastle last time so could have a bit more to offer when tackling three miles for the first time.
