15:45 – AMERICAN AFFAIR

Any number with claims in an open sprint handicap, headed by the low-mileage pair AMERICAN AFFAIR, who remains unexposed as a sprinter after closing out last season with a luckless run at Ayr, and Whisky McGonagall, who may be the one to take them along up the near side. Doncaster runner-up Son Of Sampers is another to consider in first-time headgear.

16:15 – DO IT NOW

As regards the runners with experience, DO IT NOW is preferred ahead of Anthropologist then the penalty-carrying Winchurch, assuming they all make roughly the same amount of progress from debut to here. Heed the market signals with regards to the newcomers.

16:45 – FLYLIKEANEAGLE

The suggestion is FLYLIKEANEAGLE, who looks interesting on his C&D win last April. Hougoumont, who could well build on his latest effort, is second choice ahead of Bloodhound who is a likely improver provided the widest draw doesn’t prove an inconvenience.

17:15 – DESTINADO

Simple Star would have been the selection if his fitness could be guaranteed, so he needs a close check for any strength behind him in the betting. Plus Point seems to bring by some way the most potential but she also makes her reappearance and the likely move away from soft ground is a concern. Top of the list, therefore, is in-form DESTINADO who is also unproven on good ground but has flourished on whatever surface (Polytrack, Tapeta and in the mud) he’s encountered since joining James Owen. Soowaih is unexposed and Stonking (second choice) looks an interesting long-distance traveller.

17:45 – JOHNNY RINGO (nap)

Judged on the strength of his 2yo form, an opening mark of 82 looks workable for JOHNNY RINGO (nap) who is first choice ahead of fellow handicap debutants Individualism and Silent Move. Useful Ice Max is a likely danger provided he handles the track.

18:15 – TOIMY SON

Liamarty Dreams is weighted to his best again off the back of his Doncaster win and this can go to TOIMY SON, a Listed winner as a 3yo in France who came more than a stone down the weights last season and offered much more on his AW comeback. Lion Tower, who’s looking to make it 3-3 over C&D, is another with decent claims.

18:45 – GLORIOUS ANGEL

Some of these runners met at Bath two weeks ago and GLORIOUS ANGEL, who started favourite for that race, may come out on top this time. She remains in decent form and is still well handicapped, being 4lb below her last winning mark. Silky Wilkie is second choice in the rematch, ahead of Blind Beggar. Equality, Marine Wave, Jm Jungle and Zarzyni also have clear possibilities in a competitive finale.[
