13:15 – Sans Bruit

It will be some feat for SANS BRUIT to follow up after winning at Aintree last week and got a 10lb hike in the weights for that win. The main concern in this contest is that there are so many front runners to challenge him for the lead. This could turn into a bit of a war up front but I loved the way he jumped and will stick with him.

13:50 – Marble Sands (Each Way)

Eight-year-old MARBLE SANDS is a very strong traveller and won a valuable contest at this track in November. The form of it has worked out really well and the harder they go here, the more it will suit his running style. He looks a really good each-way bet.

14:25 –  L’eau Du Sud

Dan Skelton has proved himself to be a very good target trainer and his six-year-old L’EAU DU SAND has run some very good races in big handicaps, including when second in the Betfair Hurdle and the County Hurdle in his last two starts. This contest looks tailor-made for him. He is still reasonably handicapped and can get the better of the Paul Nicholls-trained Rubaud.

15:00 – Larchmont Lass

A mares’ handicap hurdle over three miles and Paul Nicholls will be desperate to stop the Willie Mullins’ juggernaut nicking the UK Trainers’ title off him. He has one throw of the dice here with LARCHMONT LASS and as long as there is some juice in the ground, he must feel he has a chance. She got going all too late at Newbury when fourth last time, but this extra half mile will help. Mullins has three declared and A Penny A Hundred looks tough to beat.

15:35 – Beauport (Each Way) / Stayawayfay (Each Way)

Former jockey Carl Llewellyn trained and rode the winner of the Scottish National a few seasons ago. He’s heavily involved in the Nigel Twiston-Davies camp now and will have had this race in mind for BEAUPORT for sometime. The eight-year-old has only gone up 5lb for his win at Uttoxeter in the Midlands National and has to be a player.
Git Maker ran a blinder at Cheltenham and bumped into a very well handicapped rival in Inothewayurthinkin who then won a Grade 1 chase at Aintree last week.
Spanish Harlem missed out at Aintree and Willie Mullins’ stable jockey Paul Townend has opted to ride him out of the six runners the Irish champion trainer has declared.

If you took away his poor run  in the in Brown Advisory Chase at Cheltenham, the STAYAWAYFAY would be among the market leaders for this contest. The race looks a perfect fit and if he bounces back to anything like his capability, he could be a big player.

16:10 – Welcom To Cartries

Trainer Alan King always targets this meeting and so do the McNeill Family so this may have been a target for Masaccio. The three mile trip could suit. However, Paul Nicholls’ WELCOME TO CARTRIES ran a belter at Doncaster over this trip to prove he stayed the distance. A mark of 130 looks fair in his first handicap.

16:45 – Quai De Bourbon

The Willie Mullins’ challenger QUAI DE BOURBON was a big talking horse for the Martin Pipe Conditional Hurdle at the Festival and ran well to finish third to Better Days Ahead and Waterford Whispers. He’s smart, this is a good contest and it will take a highly-regarded type to win it.

17:20 – Califet En Vol

Nicky Henderson’s stable troubles have been well documented but the yard bounced back to some sort of form at Aintree so the worst may be behind them. CALIFET EN VOL was second in a Irish point-to-point and has been going nicely at home. Hopefully the long trip up to Ayr pays dividends.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
