16:10 – Asense

This revolves around Molly Mischief who is 7lb well in under a penalty for last week’s Southwell rout and the only question is how she will cope with turf at the first time of asking. With that in mind it may be worth taking her on with ASENSE whose hat-trick last year included two wins here, one over this trip. Fellow C&D winners Bobby Kennedy and Silver Atom look best of the others.

16:40 – Spirited Dancer

Flicka’s Girl knew her job and won well at Wolverhampton early in the month, having come in for good support. Now she’s being asked to concede a penalty to a pair who conversely needed their opening experience at Kempton nine days ago, and the temptation is to go with SPIRITED DANCER, albeit there’s nothing to choose between her and Washington Dancer on 2lb worse terms. Betty Clover, who represents last year’s winning yard, is an interesting newcomer.

17:15 – Bated Breeze (NAP)

Clyde Bay (second choice), Miss Stormy Night and Outer Edge are all capable of better but BATED BREEZE (nap) was a big eyecatcher at Kempton on his seasonal return and a 1lb drop for that third placing looks generous. He made up a vast amount of ground from 3f out to 1f out on that occasion but those exertions saw him tie up close home. He looks well handicapped and can prove that point here.

17:45 – Rage Of Bamby

5f on drying ground, even round a stiff course, wouldn’t look optimal for either Pinafore, whose wins have all come over 6f, or last spring’s Group 3 Palace House winner Vadream, whose three turf victories have come on soft/heavy going, especially with both returning from absences. Adaay In Devon is another who’d have preferred the rain to have kept coming and this can go to RAGE OF BAMBY, a useful juvenile who didn’t get the breaks during a limited campaign last year. Electric Storm is having her first run on turf and first crack at 5f back from seven months off, leaving Unbreak My Heart, who had the hard-pulling Tears Of A Clown behind when closing out last season with a third in Group 3 company, as second choice.

18:15 – Volto Di Medusa

Prefer The Sister and God Bless America have each shown ability in two starts on the AW and although the form may not be the strongest, they still have to be respected in this field. Money for any of the newcomers, in particular Airgunner and Epidavros, would be interesting, but the vote goes to VOLTO DI MEDUSA. His third of 13 at Thurles on his final start for Joseph O’Brien last year showed that there may be better to come and his new stable won this race in 2022.

18:45 – Virtual Hug

The return to turf shouldn’t be an issue for VIRTUAL HUG and he can continue his good run of form this year. Black Smoke (second choice) and Mini Mildred head the list of dangers, although improved showings from Head Of State and Tigerten wouldn’t be complete bolts from the blue.

19:15 – Johnjay

Three Yorkshiremen had a Chelmsford handicap in safe keeping a long way out last week and he’ll be hard to beat under a penalty despite the drop in trip. Most of his rivals are fully exposed but the exception is JOHNJAY, who won over C&D last April before holding his own in stronger races. He could progress again this year and looks a viable alternative. Snapcracklepop and Eye Of The Water look best of the rest, while the return of headgear for Emorcee could see him return to form.

19:45 – King Of Speed

Covert Mission is a contender now back off his last winning mark having put up an encouraging effort on the AW last time, while Darvel is also interesting off 1lb lower than when last successful. Racing Demon and Golden Phase are others for the shortlist, but the choice is KING OF SPEED who has been performing so consistently on the AW since the autumn. Despite that he remains 2lb below his last winning turf mark.
