Theatrically’s Brocklesby fifth sets just a fair standard and this can go to a newcomer. ROSY HOPE, Kodibeat and Spirited Dancer are preferred in that order without having the betting to guide them. Alice Haynes sent out a 2yo to win both his starts for Rosy Hope’s owner last year.
18:00 – Goodwood Odyssey
He’ll probably need a couple more furlongs to really thrive but the long straight here should enable GOODWOOD ODYSSEY to build up a head of steam like he did when overcoming greenness to come from last to first on his debut at Salisbury last year. He can defy a penalty. Jayyash is the second choice of those to have run but both newcomers would be of interest if attracting support, particularly American Riddle.
18:30 – Darwell Lion
Elladonna could do well in handicaps this year but a couple of more battle-hardened runners who look set to appreciate returning to a more galloping track can come to the fore. Ernie’s Valentine isn’t passed over lightly but the form of Ruth Carr’s yard swings the vote in favour of DARWELL LION.
19:00 – Von Baer (NAP)
Silver Trumpet bids for a hat-trick and has fitness on his side but VON BAER (nap) looks capable of foiling him. Brian Meehan’s colt did some good late work once in the clear in a 6f conditions race when last seen.
19:30 – Going The Distance
Billiegee looks a decent prospect for middle-distance handicaps this year but GOING THE DISTANCE could be the one for today. He comfortably defied a penalty in a noteworthy novice race when last seen and could step up again now he’s handicapping at three.
20:00 – The Craftymaster
Simiyann is 16lb better off with THE CRAFTYMASTER for a length-and-a-half beating at Lingfield in February. But the selection’s fine sequence continues and he’s a much more reliable betting proposition. He hasn’t run at Kempton since his debut but the long straight should play to his strengths.
20:30 – Devizes
A C&D handicap four weeks ago could hold the key to this. Choosing between the fourth Nivelle’s Magic, who may have paid late on for an early move into contention, and the fifth DEVIZES, who was kept in at a crucial stage, isn’t easy but slight preference is for last year’s winner. Fravanco and Churchill Rose make up the shortlist
