Aintree Bowl 2024 trends and stats for Aintree 2.55 on Thursday

Can the past predict the future?

Shishkin and Ahoy Senor jump a fence in the Aintree Bowl

A smashing renewal of the Grade 1 Aintree Bowl headlines the card on the opening day of the Grand National Festival.

The enigmatic Shishkin is looking to land the renewal for the second season in a row and provide some much needed relief for Nicky Henderson after his stable’s Cheltenham Festival nightmare, but Gerri Colombe looms large as the principal rival after a gallant second to Galopin Des Champs in last month’s Gold Cup.

The field of seven runners also includes National Hunt Chase winner Corbetts Cross, last season’s runner-up Ahoy Senor and 2022 King George hero Bravemansgame.

Aintree Bowl odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise key trends from the last 10 renewals and a tip based off the big-race stats are below.

Aintree Bowl trends

AGE

Nine of the last 10 winners of the Aintree Bowl were aged between eight and 10. Kemboy (2019) was the only exception to the rule when claiming the spoils as a seven year old.

CHASE FORM

Every winner of the race since 2013 had run over the larger obstacles at least eight times.

COURSE FORM

A previous outing at Aintree appears to be a positive as seven of the last 10 winners had experience of the track.

DISTANCE FORM

At least two previous runs over three miles or further and one previous victory over that distance is a profile shared by nine winners of the last 10 renewals of the Aintree Bowl.

LAST TIME OUT

No winner in the last 10 years was successful on their previous outing and all of those had their most recent run within the last 54 days.

ODDS

Paddy Power’s betting for the Aintree Bowl is normally an accurate guide to the outcome as eight winners of the last 10 renewals could be found in the top two in the betting.

RATING

You want to look for a horse rated 168 or higher as that is a mark achieved by nine of the last 10 winners.

SEASON FORM

At least three previous outings for the season is a trend shared by nine of the last 10 winners, while seven of those had been on the scoresheet on one or more occasions.

Gerri Colombe meets all the trends and emerges as the standout pick for this year’s renewal of the Aintree Bowl.
