Top of the list is BRIONI, who showed plenty of promise with his two placed efforts in the autumn and sets a clear standard on his close call behind an odds-on rival over C&D last time. The main danger is Jayyash, who finished well to go close at Southwell on his return last month and is open to more progress on this step up in trip. Great Chieftain and Toronto Raptor also enter the reckoning, while Tom Clover’s well-bred newcomer Lone Piper needs watching in the market.
17:25 – Screaming Eagle
Asimov shaped with promise in both his runs in the autumn and is respected on his return, while there are several well-bred newcomers who need a close look in the market including the Gosdens’ Saji and Ralph Beckett’s Anglepoise. However, the vote goes to SCREAMING EAGLE who sets a good standard on his near-miss here in October and is open to more progress back up in trip on his reappearance.
18:00 – Winter Snowfall
Juneberry made an encouraging start at Lingfield in the autumn and looks a likely improver upped in trip on her return, but Charlie Appleby won this race last year and he has two interesting newcomers in the line-up. Sahara Snow is a half-sister to a Group 1 winner but the vote goes to the Galileo filly WINTER SNOWFALL, who also looks the part on paper and has William Buick booked.
18:30 – Celtic Warrior
Mashadi has finished runner-up in five of his six starts and sets a useful standard on his close call over 6f here last month, but slight preference is for Andrew Balding’s CELTIC WARRIOR. He returned after a gelding operation with a much-improved second in a Southwell handicap two weeks ago and that form puts him firmly in the picture here. Rogue Encore has shown clear promise in both his runs and has each-way claims on stable debut, while another who could be in the mix is Muttasil.
19:00 – Hickory
Preference is for James Fanshawe’s HICKORY who looks well treated on some placed efforts in hot handicaps at Ascot last season and has a record of 2-3 at this track. Second choice is Revolutionise, who has five Polytrack wins on his CV and was only narrowly denied off this mark at Wolverhampton 18 days ago. Zero Carbon’s chased home three subsequent winners here in his final run last year and he’s respected on his return, while the other one on the shortlist is Kiwano.
19:30 – Bella Kopella
An interesting race in which the vote goes to four-time AW winner BELLA KOPELLA, who really kicked on again with her smooth success at Newcastle last month and still looks feasibly treated off her revised mark. White Mist has a record of 12112 since wearing a visor and she’s feared most ahead of Miss Moonshine, who has been in good form since December and was successful at Southwell last time.
20:00 – Hearitfortheboys
A few of these have the potential to do better and any significant market move for Bated Breeze, Want Want or Dark Dreamer would alter the complexion of the race. Whiteley Way looks likely to go well again but C&D winner HEARITFORTHEBOYS will find this more suitable than the Lingfield handicap he contested last week and for whom Rossa Ryan is a positive booking.
20:30 – Cracker Star (NAP)
Maxim De Winter and Waldora might well improve, as did the other three runners in all finishing second on their handicap debuts. CRACKER STAR (nap) was all the rage at Lingfield and was a bit unlucky as the winner got first run on him. Sun Dancer Girl was a long way clear of the rest over C&D and she’s second choice, though Cock And Bull also rates a strong contender after his near miss at Wolverhampton.
