16:50 – BRIONI
Placed twice already, BRIONI, whose price rose to £130,000 as a two-year-old, looks a useful prospect and should take plenty of stopping on his return to action. Jayyash was beaten at short odds on his Southwell reappearance but that betting strength suggests he’s well regarded by the Gosden stable and now up in trip he’s second choice ahead of James Ferguson’s Not Me who got bogged down in the mud at Nottingham when last seen.
17:25 – SAJI
This has the makings of an above-average maiden, with several well-bred sorts from top yards, but SAJI might be the newcomer to side with given that he’s bred to have more pace than some and his half-brother Easy was a 5f winner as a two-year-old. The twice-raced Screaming Eagle is an obvious player with the experience edge and Anglepoise, a half-sister to several winners, including the smart 11f-12.3f winner Sextant, is another one with an eye-catching pedigree.
18:00 – JUNEBERRY
Lady Bancroft is respected, but Godolphin look to hold a strong hand, with preference for JUNEBERRY who showed promise on her first start at Lingfield and can progress from that experience as she goes up in trip (dam was a 1¼m-12.5f Lancashire Oaks winner). She is taken to get the better of the pair of Charlie Appleby-trained newcomers, with Winter Snowfall next on the list ahead of Sahara Snow. The market should prove informative there for last year’s winning stable.
18:30 – CELTIC WARRIOR
The Andrew Balding-trained CELTIC WARRIOR was much improved when second in a Southwell handicap on reappearance and a repeat of that form could be good enough back in a maiden. Like the selection, Mashadi arrives on the back of a good recent effort in handicap company and is the chief threat on form. Rogue Encore has shown promise on both starts and should also figure for his new yard, while the ex-Irish General Assembly would also enter the reckoning if the betting vibes are strong having switched to George Boughey.
19:00 – HICKORY
He may not have won last term, but HICKORY had some solid form in competitive handicaps last season, including when second in the International Stakes at Ascot when half a length behind Baradar, and he’s two from three at the track. He’s worth a chance to make a winning return at the possible expense of Zero Carbon, who represents a stable that can do no wrong at present. Fellow C&D winner Revolutionise has a fitness edge over that pair and should be respected.
19:30 – BELLA KOPELLA
There isn’t a whole host of pace here, but BELLA KOPELLA improved again when a smooth winner on her reappearance and could still be well treated even after a 7 lb rise. White Mist is one of a host of C&D winners in opposition and was only narrowly denied the hat-trick at Wolverhampton last month and is feared most ahead of the reliable Miss Moonshine who won well at Southwell last month.
20:00 – DARK DREAMER
DARK DREAMER is from the family of Irish St Leger winner Royal Diamond but showed plenty of pace last season and is bred to be better than a mark of 62. He’s been gelded since last seen, so he’s worth chancing for connections who had a well-backed winner with a similar profile recently. Himawari is a big danger having stumbled at a key stage last time, while Want Want is another one open to improvement.
20:30 – CRACKER STAR
He might have been a beaten favourite, but CRACKER STAR still looked in need of the experience when a very fast-finishing runner-up at Lingfield on his handicap debut 12 days ago, so he can build on that to go one better with his yard continuing in fine form. Recent Wolverhampton runner-up Cock And Bull is also open to further improvement and is feared most, while Sun Dancer Girl produced her best effort at this C&D on her latest outing.
