14:45 Pontefract – Justus (Racing Post)
A tight handicap in which all five runners have reason to be hopeful. The suggestion is JUSTUS, who is well handicapped even without factoring in Aiden Brookes taking off 5lb, and there have been positive performances from him over hurdles this winter. Robert Johnson stormed through the handicap ranks last season and could be the danger if this run isn’t needed.
16:45 Pontefract – Wintercrack (The Times)
A chance is taken that WINTERCRACK will be sufficiently straight to show her best form. She went close in a 1m2f handicap when last seen and assured stamina is no bad thing around here. Pol Roger has dropped to a good mark and could easily leave last season’s troubles behind him, while others to consider are last year’s winner Do I Dream, On The River and Perfect Swiss.
16:55 Wolverhampton – Virtual Hug (Daily Mail)
Moon Over The Sea is 3-9 here (including a win over this trip) and he looked as though he was worth a return to further when third over 9.5f here ten days ago. He should go close, but slight preference is for VIRTUAL HUG who is fully effective over further than this, but did win a steadily run event over C&D in February. Kingston Joy is another who may appreciate stepping back up in trip and she looks best of the rest, albeit Pittsburg, Tables Turned and Still Standing can’t be dismissed entirely.
19:30 Wolverhampton – Baileys Warrior (The Guardian)
Tamaris is one for the shortlist on his stable debut if he’s in the same form as when winning at Kempton in January, while the consistent Smokey Malone shouldn’t be far away. Tarbat Ness is worth a market check back from five months off, but despite a record of 1-26 it may well be worth taking a chance with BAILEYS WARRIOR who twice chased home the prolific The Craftymaster over C&D in the winter. He faces nothing of that calibre here.
