13:45 – Dandy Devil
Dandy Devil made a successful start to his career at Newcastle last month, getting the better of the long odds-on favourite who has won subsequently. Dandy Devil was strong at the finish of that five-furlong maiden and has plenty of stamina on the dam’s side of his pedigree so should be suited by this step up in trip.
14:15 – Throne Hall
Throne Hall had been on a long losing run but he snapped it in style at Doncaster nine days ago, quickening right away inside the final two furlongs to hammer his rivals by ten lengths. Throne Hall was taking advantage of a career-low mark at Doncaster and a 4lb penalty should not be enough to stop him if in similar form here, with the cheekpieces he wore unsurprisingly retained.
14:45 – Goobinator
Goobinator has been lightly raced in recent seasons but he looked as good as ever when winning a heavy-ground handicap at Catterick in October on his return from 18 months off. That may have been over a mile and a half but stamina isn’t an issue for Goobinator who was fourth in the 2021 Cesarewitch over two and a quarter miles. He ran well when runner-up in a two-mile handicap hurdle at Haydock when last seen in December and looks a major player on his return to the Flat.
15:15 – Wen Moon
Wen Moon enjoyed a good campaign last season, winning a couple of times, including in a five-furlong handicap at York. He also ran well to finish runner-up in another couple of five-furlong handicaps at York and it’s easy enough to overlook his final effort of the season at Catterick as he wasn’t seen to best effect given how that unfolded. He’s got a positive record in five-furlong handicaps, goes well fresh and acts well around here (won on his return here last season) so ought to give a good account.
15:45 – Twilight Romance
Twilight Romance made a promising start to his career last season, building on his debut promise when winning a York maiden in a good time on his second start. He was unable to uphold the form with the runner-up from York when they clashed over this course and distance but it was track position rather than ability which proved decisive. Twilight Romance ran poorly in a competitive sales race at York’s Ebor meeting on his final start of the season but it would be little surprise to see him get back on track after a break on his handicap debut. He has been gelded since last seen.
16:15 – Bustaam
Bustaam got off the mark with ease on his reappearance at Doncaster ten days ago, travelling smoothly and readily going clear after being produced to lead over a furlong out, ultimately passing the post three lengths clear after being heavily eased inside the final 100 yards. Bustaam had plenty in hand so even a 10 lb rise in the weights may not be enough to stop him, especially as he’s clearly effective on testing ground and still relatively lightly raced for David O’Meara.
16:45 – On The River
On The River enjoyed a cracking campaign for this yard last season, winning four times, including on his reappearance over this course and distance. He ended last season with some underwhelming efforts but he has dropped to his last winning mark and, given he handles testing ground and showed last year that he goes well fresh, he is expected to launch a bold bid.
