13:18 Orne

ORNE only made his debut in September, but he made a winning start at Kempton and won the Horris Hill Stakes on heavy ground on his third start. He was unlucky not to finish closer in Doha last month and again shaped better than the result in a listed event at Lingfield three weeks ago, having to make his challenge wide and only beaten a neck. He is improving with each run and looks the one to beat even under a 5 lb penalty. Silent Age made it two from two in the style of a good prospect at Wolverhampton last time and has to be feared.

13:53 Palace Boy

PALACE BOY has shown improved form since joining Ralph Smith, landing a gamble on his stable debut over a mile and three quarters at Wolverhampton in December, and taking another step forward when following up over the same course and distance in January. He did well to win on that occasion and lost little in defeat behind Spartan Army at Southwell last time. Palace Boy is 7 lb better off at the weights now, so he is handicapped to reverse that form, and he still may have more to offer in this sphere. The classy Max Vega is another to consider back up in trip.

14:25 Sommelier

SOMMELIER finished lame on his debut, and he proved a different proposition after seven months off when opening his account over six furlongs at Chelmsford in November and completed a simple task in style at Kempton on his next start. He raised his game further when runner-up to Blue Prince on his handicap debut over course and distance last time, only worn down later by a more experienced rival. There should be even more to come from him and he is weighted to reverse that form now. Fire Demon and Daring Legend, an impressive winner over course and distance on his penultimate start, also command respect.

15:00 Nine Tenths

NINE TENTHS caused a little bit of a surprise when beating Cloud Cover at Wolverhampton in December and she shaped well in defeat behind Shades of Summer and Dear My Friend on her next two starts. She enhanced her positive record on the all-weather when resuming winning ways in a listed race at Wolverhampton earlier this month, well backed and had plenty in hand. She remains on a fair mark back in handicap company and her rider, who claims 7 lb, has won on her before. Shades of Summer will be a big danger again, though, while Cloud Cover and Wild Side are others expected to be thereabouts.

15:35 Cover Up

This looks like a deep race, but it has been hard not to be impressed by COVER UP on an artificial surface, winning his last three starts on the all-weather, and he took his form to a new level in a course and distance handicap last month. He always looked in control that day, moving powerfully into contention and easily quickening clear of his rivals to win with plenty in hand. The handicapper has hit him with a 13 lb rise in the weights, but he is a sprinter who is going places and is expected to complete a four-timer before having his sights raised even further. Summerghand and Batal Dubai, who finished close to each other at Lingfield last time, are a couple of others to consider.

16:10 Penzance

This is a cracking renewal of the Easter Classic and the percentage call is to side with PENZANCE, who is proving himself another success story for these connections. He has won his last four starts on the all-weather, including the two trials for this race on his last two starts, which means he is chasing a valuable bonus here. The manner of his latest win at Lingfield suggests he has plenty more to offer, while the switch back to Newcastle will likely suit his run style better, so he has a fair bit in his favour. Oh So Grand, To Catch A Thief and Elegant Man all have plenty to recommend them, so he shouldn’t be ruled out either.

16:40 Dear My Friend

DEAR MY FRIEND has done nothing but impress on the all-weather since the turn of the year, producing a brilliant display when maintaining his unbeaten record on synthetics at Lingfield four weeks ago, and he looks sure to make another bold bid on that evidence. Symbol of Light, runner-up both starts this year, rates a big threat, with Final Voyage and Kingdom Come others to consider. French-raider Fast Raaj also needs factoring into things.
