13:50 Musselburgh – Individualism
Individualism for Charlie Johnston is the standout. He needed the experience last year and he’s going to improve for stepping up beyond 7f and this is over a mile. The handicapper has been easy on him and the stable do well at this meeting historically. The soft ground won’t be an issue either.
14:05 Haydock – Brentford Hope
I’m a big fan of Brentford Hope and hopefully he can win this. He won at Newcastle last time out to qualify for Saturday’s race and a bump up to a mark of 140 could potentially be too high. The ground will be testing and he loves that. The track will suit him too.
14:25 Musselburgh – Darkness
I respect Poet Master’s chances but Darkness could be the value selection. He’s dropped to a mark of 90 and he can definitely win off that rating. He ran a great race in the Golden Mile at Goodwood off a mark of 94. His form can be in and out but I’ll take a chance on him.
14:40 Haydock – Shoeshine Boy
Shoeshine Boy could be the value pick. He’s been running well all season and he won his last two at Ayr and Kelso. He’s taken his form to a new level and he’s had a tongue tie on for those two wins. The ground won’t be an issue and the handicapper hasn’t hit him hard. He’s at the bottom of the weights but he can cause a surprise.
15:00 Musselburgh – Silky Wilkie
I’m with Silky Wilkie but I’m a bit disappointed with his price! He’s well treated based on his form last year. I’m putting his fourth at Wolverhampton two runs back down to the ground and he’s definitely better over this 5f trip. He’s off a mark of 97 but Sam Feilden is claiming 7lbs so he’s basically off a mark of 90. Sam has won on him before and he’s been teed up nicely for this.
15:15 Haydock – Numitor
I really like Numitor. He’s a good jumper on his day and he ran well over this trip at Newbury when second behind Heltenham last year and that form has held up well. He shaped well on his seasonal reappearance at Exeter earlier this month and he looked like he needed the run. He will come forward for that run so he’s got a massive chance.
15:35 Musselburgh – Struth
I’m not sure I trust Struth entirely but he can run a big race for Charlie Johnston. He should have improved from aged three to four and he’s tactically versatile. He’s got great place form and his last couple of runs have been decent. He’s capable on the ground too.
