13:50 Musselburgh – Individualism
ITV Saturday gets underway in Scotland with a handicap for 3yo over 1m. It’s very easy to stick with The Dr Jim Walker runner here INDIVIDUALISM who goes for Charlie Johnston and Joe Fanning. This mile will be ideal and he ran really when when fifth in a decent size field at Newmarket when last seen. The second at Ayr last term was also decent. Stall five is perfect to pop out and make all.
14:05 Haydock – Brentford Hope
ITV also go to Haydock on Saturday for this handicap hurdle over nearly 2m. I think there will be a right gallop on here, and that will suit BRENTFORD HOPE who will surely go back to hold-up tactics even though he made all at Newcastle last time. The Harry Derham runner only just gets home over 2m, but this is short of that trip and he’s a pretty useful horse at his best. Paul O’Brien’s mount is up 5lb but can cruise at them off a searing gallop.
14:25 Musselburgh – Gweedore
GWEEDORE has won this off 83 and 90 including for this column – but, 100 may well be a step too far. However, the Katie Scott runner is well drawn to go straight to the front and might be able to dominate this small field with William Pyle taking off a useful 5lb. I’ll take a chance with Poet Master and Northwen Express both drawn out wide.
14:40 Haydock – Shoeshine Boy (each-way)
SHOESHINE BOY is in ripe form right now and although history dictates a mark of 107 might be a step too far he stays well and goes in juicy ground so must have an each-way chance on the hat-trick for Craig Nichol and trainer Donald Whillans.
15:00 Musselburgh – Zarzyni (each-way)
ZARZYNI was fifth in this last year off a mark of 97 but can run this time rated 82. He’s still only seven and ran a decent second at Newcastle last time so could be chucked in if coming back to form for the canny David & Nicola Bqrron team and Joe Fanning. I’ll have a few quid each-way.
15:15 Haydock – Top Ville Ben
TOP VILLE BEN is hard to predict, but he loves the mud and when on song he can be a hard horse to pass. The 12yo runs for Philip Kirby and Robbie Dunne and while he has no chance on his pulled-up effort at this track last time, his eighth at Leopardstown the time before was not a bad effort at all in a big field.
15:35 Musselburgh – Struth
STRUTH hasn’t gone this far many times but the last time he did so, he was third in a decent event at Haddock and second at Doncaster. Most of his recent form is over 1m 4f and he ran a fine second when last seen at Newcastle at the end of last year. He rattled home that day suggesting he has every chance over this distance of hitting the frame at least for Charlie Johnston and Jason Hart.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me, Paddy?
