Top PP trader and all-round good guy Joe Logue reckons Auguste Rodin at Meydan (16:00) can get his four-year-old season off to a flyer.

13:50 Musselburgh – Ice Max

Ice Max is one I like. His form looks a bit patchy but he has had excuses on soft ground. The going at Musselburgh should be fine and he can continue developing as a three-year-old now that he’s been gelded. Karl Burke’s yard has a 21 per cent strike rate at the moment too.

14:05 Haydock – Holly (each-way)

HOLLY is a mare who underperforms a bit but was very impressive in winning at Market Rasen a couple of runs back. Haydock’s long straight should help her to settle and she looks a fair enough price each-way against the market leaders.

14:25 Musselburgh – Poet Master

POET MASTER, another Karl Burke runner, catches my eye after his three wins last season. He won on his second handicap start at Doncaster over 7f to end last season and looks unexposed against a lot of older runners in this off a mark of 100.

15:10 Meydan – Measured Time

The Group 1 Dubai Turf on Dubai World Cup night looks a cracker with plenty of previous winners in it. We’re paying 5 places and Luxembourg could be an each-way bet to nothing at the prices. MEASURED TIME from the Charlie Appleby yard is the one I fancy to win. He’s very lightly raced and has wintered well in Dubai, winning his last two at the track. A really solid player.

15:35 Musselburgh – Metier (each-way)

METIER has been running over hurdles through the winter and finished second in this contest last year. While a little higher in the ratings this time, he still looks like an each-way value place with 4 places on offer. This time of the year can be tough as the Flat season is in its infancy.

16:00 Meydan – Auguste Rodin

AUGUSTE RODIN. I find it hard to see past him. He’s a dual Derby winner, Champion Stakes winner and a Breeders Cup winner. He loves fast ground and can start his four-year-old career with a win. He’s my best bet of the day.

16:35 Meydan – Laurel River and Senor Buscador (each-way)

The feature race on the card – the Dubai World Cup – and despite tipping LAUREL RIVER last time the draw in stall 12 over 1m 2f tempers my enthusiasm a bit although he’d be an each-way play. I’m going to split my stake each-way on LAUREL RIVER and SENOR BUSCADOR. There’s not a lot of pace in the race which should set up nicely for their opposite run styles and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of depth to this race.
