13:30 Lingfield – Lexington Knight

Lexington Knight has a good few victories under his belt on a synthetic surface and he can break his duck around this venue on only his second try. We have the most experienced rider Paddy Bradley on our side and he’s worth a good few pounds in the saddle. Lexington Knight likes to work his way through runners and he should get a decent pace in here to run at.

13:53 Newcastle – Duty Of Care

As the championships are now run as handicaps, we need to look closely at the horses that have been specifically aimed here. We start off with an interesting contender in Duty Of Care, who made a very big move up around the outside and quite rightly fell in the hole someway from home last time. He’ll be ridden much more patiently and looks to be very well treated.

14:05 Lingfield – Al Rufaa

Al Rufaa has so much ability he could win this like he was pulling the proverbial cart. If he gives himself an opportunity and switches off in the early stages of the race, he can go well. Let’s hope his rider Dylan Hogan has hands like silk as from a good starting position he can produce him down the short straight with an electric change of gear.

14:25 Newcastle – Bazball (each way)

Bazball was getting going far too late when we saw her last time from a low draw. She made her way across to the stand-side before launching her challenge back up the middle again. She has a feather weight on her back and our apprentice jockey Andrew Breslin takes off another valuable 3lbs. She looks dangerously well handicapped over a course and distance that will suit.

14:40 Lingfield – Cephalus

Cephalus has gone through the grades seamlessly from ratings of 66 to 70 to 75. This looks a straight-forward opportunity for him to rack up the four timer. Being drawn out wide in stall 10 over this 1m trip doesn’t pose as much of a problem for the rider Tom Queally, as it can do over some of the different starting points at this venue. Expect him to be smuggled up in behind runners until late on.

15:00 Newcastle – Nine Tenths

Nine Tenths is going to need to be the class angle in this line-up with lots of recent winning form among the opposition. She looks up to shouldering the burden with the young 7lb claimer Jack Enright getting a big opportunity to shine in front of the TV cameras. She looks pretty straightforward from a tactics perspective and hopefully she’s not too far out of her ground as there looks and distinct lack of pace up front. She is top-rated on 100 for a reason.

15:15 Lingfield – First Emperor

First Emperor finished two and a half lengths behind Spartan Army at Southwell a couple of races ago and although he didn’t back that up last time, he was making a fairly quick reappearance. He has now been given just short of a month’s break for this assignment. It could be a huge double for his excellent Newmarket handler John Ryan and also a welcome boost for his underrated rider Darragh Keenan.

15:35 Newcastle – The X O (each way)

The X O should go off a big  double-digit price despite putting up an eye-catching performance last time at Lingfield. He was knocked over coming out of the starting stalls and then made a massive move up around the outside to get to the front end in the hottest part of the race. The fact that he managed to cling on for a close seventh place, means the performance can be upgraded.

15:50 Lingfield – Daamberdiplomat

Daamberdiplomat caught the eye when making stealthy progress towards the inside of the track up the street at Dundalk last time. We now have James Doyle taking over in the saddle on his return to action too. He’s drawn one off the paint and will get a perfect tow round into the straight. His change of gear late on looks perfect for this venue.

16:10 Newcastle – Sir Busker (eachway)

Sir Busker finished behind the red-hot favourite Penzance over this course and distance recently and he now has a huge 12lb turnaround in the weights. He’s not always the easiest to get to settle in the early stages but we have the excellent Danny Tudhope taking over in the saddle for the first time. He’s going to have Sir Busker perfectly switched off and he’ll produce him in between runners late on.

16:40 Newcastle – Fantastic Fox

Fantastic Fox has a wonderful change of gear when things fall into his lap, just as they did at Lingfield last time over this distance. He still looks to have a touch of wiggle room in the handicap ratings and the multiple champion Oisin Murphy takes over in the saddle. He may not quite have the class of Dear My Friend but he does receive a hefty chunk of weight from him.
