Lincoln Handicap 2024 trends and stats for Doncaster 3.35 on Saturday

Plenty of runners, plenty of questions.

Lincoln Handicap

The Lincoln Handicap is the big race on the opening day of the Flat turf season in Britain this weekend.

A bumper field of 22 runners are set to take their chance in the one-mile contest at 15:35 on Saturday, which is worth a cool £77,310 to winning connections.

There have been plenty of big-priced winners over the years including 18/1 shot Migration in last season’s renewal and Johan at 28/1 in 2022, with both horses looking to land the top prize for a second time.

Lincoln Handicap odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise key trends from the last 10 renewals and a tip based off the big-race stats are below.

Lincoln Handicap trends

AGE

Eight of the last 10 winners of the Lincoln were aged four or five.

COURSE FORM

A previous outing at Doncaster is not too important as half of the scorers since 2013 had experience of the track.

DISTANCE FORM

Eight of the winners since 2013 boasted four or more previous runs over eight furlongs – the distance of the Lincoln – and at least one victory over the trip.

FLAT FORM

Auxerre (2019) is the only winner of the last 10 renewals to have had fewer than five runs on the level.

LAST TIME OUT

It is worth noting horses that are coming into the race off a 152-day break or longer as Ocean Tempest (2014) and Secret Brief (2016) were the only two to defy the trend in the last 10 renewals.

ODDS

Only three winners since 2013 could be found in the top three in Paddy Power’s betting for the Lincoln Handicap, while the other seven could all be nabbed at a double-digit starting price.

RATING

Levitate (2013) is the only winner of the previous 10 renewals to be rated lower than 99.

SEASON FORM

Horses making their seasonal reappearance have the edge over those with race fitness on their side as seven of the last 10 winners were having their first outing of the campaign.

WEIGHT

You want to look for a horse carrying between 8st 12lbs and 9st 4lbs as that is a profile shared by eight of the last 10 winners.

Lincoln Handicap 2024 trends verdict

Awaal, The Gatekeeper and Thunder Ball emerge from the pack as ticking the most trends.

The poor performance of horses prominent in the betting for the Lincoln Handicap in recent years means The Gatekeeper and Thunder Ball are perhaps worth chancing over Awaal.
