13:30 Sir Gino
With Sir Gino a non runner, Willie Mullins’ Storm Heart is a very interesting runner for Gigginstown House Stud. Willie would love to train a Festival winner for Michael and Eddie O’Leary. He looks a player as the switch to the New Couse for the last two days of the Festival won’t put as much stress on his sloppy jumping.
14:10 Zenta (each-way)
Willie Mullins saddles five runners in the County Hurdle and ZENTA was placed in a competitive handicap hurdle at Leopardstown last time and was previously third to Lossiemouth in last year’s Triumph Hurdle. A Grade 1 winner at Aintree is still lightly raced and reasonably handicapped. Pied Piper has to be respected and should really have won last year when chinned by Faivoir in this contest.
14:50 Readin Tommy Wrong
The connections were in the winners’ enclosure already after the bumper on Wednesday after Jasmin De Vaux won. READIN TOMMY WRONG is a strong stayer and finished the race off the Grade 1 Lawlors of Naas to win really well, that’s top form. Captain Teague was not beaten by far by Fact Or File when third in last year’s bumper and is a Grade 1 winning hurdler too having captured the Challow at Newbury last time.
Cheltenham Gold Cup
15:30 Corach Rambler (each-way)
The highlight of the day is the Cheltenham Gold Cup and it’s best to lay my cards on the table here. Reigning champ Galopin Des Champs is the most likely winner but his price is skinny and I can’t see it getting much bigger with Willie Mullins’ dominance this week.
I like the chances of last year’s Grand National winner CORACH RAMBLER for trainer Lucinda Russell. He is a dual Cheltenham Festival winner already having won the Ultima Handicap twice also. He ran a very good race in the Betfair Chase at Haydock before too and a bigger field and a more competitive race will bring out the best in him. He’s a really good each-way alternative to the favourite. If he’s in touch turning for home, he will wriggle his way through the field.
16:10 Its On The Line
This top team of Emmet Mullins and Derek O’Connor have already been in the winners’ enclosure this week with Corbetts Cross. This seven-year-old, ITS ON THE LINE, should follow up in the Hunters’ Chase for amateur riders.
16:50 Dinoblue
This could be a very good day for owner JP McManus and he has DINOBLUE and Limerick Lace racing in his silks in the Mares’ Chase. The only worry with Dinoblue is the 2m 4f trip. She is a very smart jumper who can be ridden behind the leaders, but can also run at the front if the occasion demands it. I don’t see any flaws in her.
17:30 Waterford Whispers
It’s easy to forget with the Mullins’ bandwagon rolling on that Henry De Bromhead has had another great Festival. WATERFORD WHISPERS was second in a Novice Handicap Hurdle over this trip at the Dublin Racing Festival and is still very lightly raced so there’s plenty of room for improvement. This race has a rare roll call of winners in the past including, Galopin Des Champs. Mullins saddles the unexposed Quai De Bourbon who also fits the ‘could be anything bracket’.
